February 7, 201015 yr Yes but they look the goods to me, whether they are show quality or not We all have to start somewhere. I'm no where near where you're at in experience or flock size, but I AM fortunate enough to have some pretty decent birds courtesy of a lovely lady haha For me to pick the ones that YOU as a more experienced person is keeping makes me think I am learning what a good budgie looks like. You have some amazing birds! I have a favorite of Kaz's flock and that is her Yellow Faced Sky Violet Cock, Gosh he is amazing - he is something pretty special in her flock I believe so again, I think I maybe learning what a good bird is *HI 5* hahaha

Yes, you are right - every judge has his/her preferences But they do meet up and establish "the look" that they want to see more of. As for showing and breeding .... well I can only share my experience with you and that is I almost never show a hen, at least I try not to, and what I show depends on whether it is "breeding time" or not and when the bird was born. The UBCs (nest feathered) which I believe will amount to something will be shown around the 5-6+ mark and then again a bit later when they have matured a bit more. Most of the time I just grab what looks good on the day or if I am feeling ambitious the day before for a bit of show cage training and try to rock up with a decentish number of birds. Let your Club members advise you and you'll be fine! Edited February 9, 201015 yr by renee
February 9, 201015 yr So Renee does that mean you just grab a bird that looks good out of the aviary and take it along to the show and hope to win? Or if you think you have a chance the day before you will put it in the show box for a quick one day lesson? Did I get it right........
February 10, 201015 yr Author GB I thought/hoped you didn't care and were breeding the bird that You want. if you read what i said ren i said quote how do you show good birds yet, be able to build a good line is it possible to keep 100 birds and no more and still build your own birds look ??? i am breeding my own look but to do this need a line of my own i was asking how can i achive to do this with what ive chosen to breed to achive my look and how can i keep it if i dont have alot of room or am i dreaming

Or if you think you have a chance the day before you will put it in the show box for a quick one day lesson? Did I get it right........Almost! Yes, most times I just grab a bird on the day that is in condition and pop it into a show cage. IF they are up-and-coming young uns and I want to make sure they "show" they go into the show cage the day before, I put newspaper at the bottom below the perch and soon enough the curious little critters get up on the perch 'cause they want to look around. I'm afraid as a soon to be Intermediate I will have to spend a heck of a lot more time with show preparation (sigh) but the judges in this State are very understanding with us Novices and 'break us in slowly'. GB I thought/hoped you didn't care and were breeding the bird that You want. if you read what i said ren i said quotehow do you show good birds yet, be able to build a good line is it possible to keep 100 birds and no more and still build your own birds look ???i am breeding my own look but to do this need a line of my own i was asking how can i achive to do this with what ive chosen to breed to achive my look and how can i keep it if i dont have alot of room or am i dreaming Silly me GB!
