February 11, 201015 yr Author okay so here are some pics and just say what you see then i will explain whythese not mum and dad these foster birds it is the lacewing on cage floor these birds not related yet same age i put it in a plastic tub to get a clear picture for you guys but didnt work well so i supplemented it yesterday as it was not feed much okay what do you guys think is it okay or something wrong with it its 4 weeks old it was hatched on jan 4th this year its very light compared to my other chicks and its not got a full crop ever ??? can you see the feathers on its head they part and flop when it puts its blow on is it me or could something be wrong with this chick im hopeing its just a good bird and im on my way however im not to sure I sent these pictures to Ray Welshman, this was hes reply. ///////////// The picture. of the bird You sent does not look like a MOP as the tail feathers are in line with the body, when it is a mop they are usually angled out about 30 degrees or more on each side. They just look natural feathers to me, they appear to have plenty of blood in them I would be more worried about them being french moulters than anything and I don't even think that is the case. thankyou very much for taking your own time to help me pji the bird is still alive however i do still feel something is wrong with it she has been still eatting formula and doesnt seem interested in eatting seed yet although she has been seen to crack it shes growing into her feathers nicely and is very lively still does anyone know how i go about intergrading some seed into her diet as im afraid to add seed to the formula as i cant crack it and dont want to feed her un cracked seed shes been feed on a diet of puraee apples beef baby food for some protin with vegies and formula rearing mix she nibbles bread and greens and i put her out in aviry almost every day where she seems quiet contented her crop seems to be quiet large and low down on this hen and when feeding becomes very big on on side rather than fully so im wondering if its a problem their i will get pics today my son was nice enough to let me use his camera today so will be doing a bird photo shot later
February 11, 201015 yr It's a cutie GB.How's it going? The pics on the benchtop dont look feather duster, just very feathered. More worried it is a weak bird, one that doesnt hold weight well and not a ..(whats the word ) I dont know, vibrant/enthusiastic. They just never seem right when in the aviary.Hopefully a good course of feeding sees this bird right.Good luck mate- the rest look like beauties too You beat me  Edited February 11, 201015 yr by the pie
February 11, 201015 yr Has she turned into a feather duster GB or was she just hungry. Is she putting weight on.

February 12, 201015 yr All you can do GB is leave there or put her in cage and feed her or let her feed herself and let nature take it's coarse. mmmmm hard one isn't. She still looks fairly messy or untidy to me, in the wings etc.

February 12, 201015 yr Considering she tries to chew things like the wood, if you sat her in the middle of a large tray of seed, would she try it ?
February 13, 201015 yr Hi G.B. I'm with Kaz type of "monkey see monkey do" if she's left with other chicks and sees them eating, and Mum doesn't come for a while, maybe she will give it a go. even overnight, so she can feed with others at early morn' pick?
February 13, 201015 yr Also she has the appearance of a dehydrated chick to me....one not getting enough food or rehydration. I would put her in a large plastic tub with nothing but seed all over the floor. She will learn to eat seed within 24 hrs if she is so inclined.
