Posted January 31, 201015 yr Having read another topic tonight it got me wondering what the maximum reccommended age is for breeding budgies. Mine are still all quite young but I wouldn't want to endanger any of them by breeding them at the wrong age. Do males have a maximum too or just females?
January 31, 201015 yr There are no hard and fast rules about breeding ages, just as with people each one is individual, Charlie Chapplin was quite old and still fathering children. But there are optimum times to breed with budgies, for me that is from one year to four years of age. Cheers Clearwing
January 31, 201015 yr I agree with CW.............one to four years of age. Wont breed older hen after four years...incidence of eggbinding and prolapse is high in hens after 4 years. I have bred two 6 year old cocks.....reduced amount of chicks but still quality chicks and no health issues to the cock.
