Why Would These Chicks Be So Much Bigger?

Featured Replies

Ive been reading this with interest.

I fostered a chick to another nest and it is developing very poor compared to its siblings, same feed.

I have noticed the cock is lazy and wont do much feeding,he leaves it mostly for the hen,he pigs out on the soft food and greens but keeps it for himself.First time foster not good enough to breed and terrible foster cock hes gonski.

Were as the original cock feeds his young really well,as soon as he gets it he passes it on..

The foster chick will never reach his genitec make up cause he is missing out..

But its all about genes, you cant turn a pony into a racehorse cause you feed it better.

50% genes 50% beak a dont think so..

Off topic im haven trouble once the first three are hatched the remaining eggs get pooping and im getting dead in shell, how do you limit this..

Thanks for the article Daz but that even talks of gaps in knowledge about budgie nutrition. This take directly from the article itself: "Finally, to complicate matters even further, optimum dietary levels of a number of nutrients have not yet been determined for Budgerigars."

Also Mat my comment is merely that there are too many variables even in the same nest. If you tried to publish a peer reviewed article using that as your evidence it would not be accepted as reasonable evidence.

:P No problems Nubbly... I think there will always be some missing information.. It gives a air of Mistery to the fancy.

...... i hear that there is talk of a normal being produced from a pair of DF Spangle? That will go against the beliefs.
