call me simple but for the life of me i could not get that budgie program to work

id put birds in family the lot but i couldnt work out how to do anything ellse way to complex for my brain

You are Not alone GB! For some reason I had a *** of a time with ring codes - same number but different year and it wouldn't accept the entry .... so like you I made my own system

well i had majority of my birds on it then it did something to my com and then i lost it all im to afraid to put it back

i tryed the free wicca sight bird program that was harder than the budgie one so....

i tryed a diffrent book for every cock and then just listed its partner the pairing date eggs filled eggs layed hatched ectra

chicks keeped sold all that but i have 95 books all up as i tryed to keep one for each hen also

but was just doubling up on stuff so... i will work something out that fits my brain patten

for now im just using visual memories more than anything for some reason i can remember my birds breeding background but nothing else but i do have to work someting out soon before i go full in to swing of things

Yep I initially did not record the year and each year got continuing numbers. I very quickly realized that as soon as I got to 999 and had to start again, that the budgerigar program would not be able to distinguish the ring codes. That's why you'll now see my records as 120/09 or 085/07 - I always now put the year in as part of the ring code and you'll see that I actually write that down on my nest cards too.

Now I find the budgerigar program invaluable. Places to record whatever you like and the ability to print out a full report (such as the one I keep on file).

And no my system is not complicated at all - nest cards, chicks onto file, file onto computer, print out a report. If it were more complicated I would lose track and get bored and frustrated! I don't like lots of admin!!!!

Entering the ringcode would you put for instance R & T 269 07 and R & T 269 08 ?It works like that

Well you guys are way smarter than me, I just followed what I was supposed to do and then decided it had to be my fault and gave up and created a system that worked for me!

well i got all that right i got all birds and related birds everything to work mind you took me forever but then i could not record pairs and chicks it wouldnt let me why i dont know

so i did give up after it stuffed my com i figured something was up

Do you record all pet types or only show? I have a small photo album of each pair I bred last year, pets only. Then added a picture of chicks, after they flew the nest. It's easier for me to check out their colours, what the parent's were and what they might be split to etc. I have a nest box card slipped in with each pairs pictures. I have coloured rings for each nest as well to keep track. Keep other info. on comp. worming, medications, any problems etc. :P
