Types Of Natural Tree Branches

Featured Replies

Hello, I am new to this site and I was wondering if anyone could please help me. I live in Australia and I am not sure which types of tree branches are safe for my bird. Are there any in particular that they seem to love more than others. Thank you for any suggestions. :)

thank you for your suggestions, I'll see if I can get some of those!

If your new budgie isnt eating as you posted, wait on the branches thing until he settles in and is eating more regularly.

I stick to gum tree branches as some others are toxic and I don't know enough about trees to be sure which ones. For example beneath the bark of the willow tree is natural asprin and chewing it will cure a headache, what it would do to budgies I don't know. Clearwung

Cec Gearing put me onto the peppermint tree, and my birds go mad over it. Even in breeder cages they see or smell it coming and are clambering all over the cage front waiting for theirs. None of them have complained about headaches either :rip: They chew the bark off it as well.

Call me stupid but if I went into the bush I wouldn't know which one was the peppermint bush. Clearwing

Thanks Kaz, is it a peppermint Myrtle?

Commonly called Aussie Willow Myrtle..................over here in W.A. they grow it around every street, every park and every school playground so its easy to find. I have given up on gumleaves now as the peppermint tree get such a good result. I am sure its used as a budgie medicine too. When I supply it regularly the budgies are very healthy.

A fellow forum member told me he feeds his Rose prunings, Yes rose prunings, when deadheading your roses throw a couple in the flights, they love it.

I had a link in my post about the topic we did on the Peppermint tree....there is photos etc here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....peppermint+tree click on the link :rip:

Hi,

The correct name for the Peppermint tree is Agonis Flexuosa or the common name is the Willow Myrtle, this tree is native to Western Australia. It is easy to grow and available at most Australian Native Nurseries or if you have a local favourite garden centre, if they don't have one in stock could easily order it for you. Grow it near your avairy if there is space, great shade tree and is easily kept under control size wise by giving your budgies a treat whenever it needs a trim.

hope this helps,

lib

Thanks I think I will wait a little, just let him get used to his new cage and things. Though we made some good progress this morning he sat on my finger for a little.

I've been using different eucalypts, bottlebrush, peppermint trees and lately been using the paperbark trees and my budgies have been going nuts over them!

Hi All, few variety's to pick from there. With the Hibiscus, do you give flowers, branch's as well as leaves? Mine love gum leaves, not fussed on bottle brush. Does anyone know about BRUSH BOX (I think called q.land br. box as well). I've used a branch but don't know about flowers or foliage. :)
