Posted January 24, 201015 yr I's called a drinkwell pet fountain. The water is continually fltered and it comes with accessories for drowing little pods of wheatgrass hydroponically. The wheatgrass is said to be very good for budgies and cats alike! Here is a picture of it.
January 24, 201015 yr wow that looks great, but my birds would poop in it straight away, but it is a great idea
January 24, 201015 yr Author Nice. How many are there in stock. I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!I bought it on ebay so you could probably find a distributor that would post worldwide. I paid $23 plus shipping but in the local petshops it's $80 !!!!!!!Here is the website of an australian wholesaler that deals in these http://www.prestigepetproducts.com.au/wow that looks great, but my birds would poop in it straight away, but it is a great idea Splat, it's ctually going to be a drinking fountain for our cat but I'll grow the wheatgrass for her AND the birds in it. I'd never thought of using it in the actual cage...you'd have to make sure they could never access the cord.
January 24, 201015 yr I saw something very similar in Petbarn in Brisbane. It cost about $80. It was meant for cats. There was a little raised mound in the centre of the pool and I thought that my birds would love to jump in and out of the water. That was until I realised that any poop would end up blocking the filtration system. There were no accessories.
January 24, 201015 yr it's ctually going to be a drinking fountain for our cat but I'll grow the wheatgrass for her AND the birds in it. Remember the cats saliva is toxic to birds...if the cat chews the grass you cant use it for the birds.
January 25, 201015 yr Yes I would be very careful giving grass to birds that cats have been around, but it is a lovely drink vessel

Remember the cats saliva is toxic to birds...if the cat chews the grass you cant use it for the birds. No, I wasn't planning to let them both eat from the same grass but I was going to grow two pods at once and give one to the birds and one to the cat....do you think that if they are both grown from the fountain the cat drinks from that this would be toxic for the birds? It is filtered but would her mouth touching the water pose a problem??? I had no idea cat saliva was toxic to the birds. I figured cat saliva was only a threat if the bird was in the cat's mouth!!! :thankyou:
January 25, 201015 yr Ever since I left a half-full bucket in the breeding room overnight and a newly acquired adult budgie escaped from his quarantine holding cage and flew across the room and suicided in the water I have had an aversion to putting any water anywhere near my birds. Now I know many breeders leave shallow water dishes in the aviary during a hot spell but I cannot bring myself to do so. :glare: So Best of Luck and I hope you do not have any misfortunes! It is a lovely idea! :thankyou: Just had a thought - I hope it runs on batteries 'cause little budgies love to chew anything in sight and you could end up with a mass electrocution if they go for the cable. :yellowhead: Edited January 25, 201015 yr by renee

Growing the grass in the container the cat drinks from and expecting the cat NOT to eat from the grass would be expecting a little too much dont you think ?
