Posted January 23, 201015 yr okay i got a lutino cock he is an older bird i know his ancestor and breeder he was culled to pet shop but i snapped him up before he had time to settle their for 20.00 he may not breed last time he was used was 2008 i thought he would be great for pet line if not good enough for show stock can i have others opinions please and what i need to do to bring out his hidden genes i know he is in the blue as it was said but know to achieve this from him i need a dark green hen with a nice feather above the head and bit of body about her something i do not have :fear but thought i will grab him in case their was other option i could use with him remember i breed albino and really perticually want to achive albinos and lutes with his blood aventually he is not split blue so would need to out cross to a mauve ????would this be right to still contain his vibrant yellow in the chicks and have them be split for blue or am i better to breed him to a violet hen for this or what???????????????? thanks gb albino to him would i know work only my hens are not good enough in the head so will need to split chicks first to lutino and hope for a hen lute in the bunch would i need a cinnamon hen or not lutes not my area
January 23, 201015 yr GB, I think the main thing is to use a dark factor hen, dark green, olive, cobalt or mauve. You should breed a lut hen hopefully with good colour. The most successful Lutino breeder ever in Victoria would mate his Lutino's to cinnamon opaline olive hens, the colour of the lut hens produced was outstanding and very hard to beat at the shows, I know I had the Res. bird to him on several occasions.
January 23, 201015 yr He is looks very nice to me and I would use him - definitely! Word of caution- put him to a tightly winged hen as from the photo is looks like me may have "heavy flights".
January 23, 201015 yr Author May we see a front on shot ? yes busy right now cleanning yard up moving birds just poped in for sneak look i will have one by tonight
January 25, 201015 yr Author sorry it took so long here is front picture not sure if i will use this boy after all really need to think about my options he has one small fault but it could pass on genetically im to believe one side his wings 3 feathers seem to have grown with a club ed effect look like a shark fin look one three feathers only apart from that he is fantastic so,.... now i contenplate do i want to risk that genetic fault getting into my flock i will get picture of it when i can hers him like promised
January 25, 201015 yr I think it is better to take the risk with him and see if he passes on this genetic fault, rather than not breed him and never know. If he does pass on the fault, then you know that you will not use him again. If not, then it is good.
January 25, 201015 yr Now you come to mention it I can see what you mean in the photo above. I have a Clearwing hen like that, yes it can be passed on but as a chick is made up of 50:50 chromosomes I would take the risk if everything else is to your liking and keep records so you don't breed his chicks back to eachother in 2-4+ years.
January 25, 201015 yr Author no but it may not come out for a few generations dave so im not sure i want to put birds in unless i can see their going to not be depromental to future birds i dont want to sell a bird one day and someone end up with a genetic floor in their stud through me if i know their is a slight risk of passing on a bad trate id rather pass one the bird out of my stud i know i may never know what some birds might have hidden genetically but if i know that possibly something could be in the mix then i would rather have the knowledge of it not one day find out from word of mouth not when i pair a good bird to it and find out from results of chicks
January 25, 201015 yr Author He has beautiful feather GB  yes kaz he has very good blood thats what makes it hard decishion hes from a pure line also  what to do
January 25, 201015 yr I think it would be better,if you want to show a picture of a bird would be to put him in a cage & take a photo, then to have a picture of a bird in a vice like grip in the hand, only a surgestion
January 25, 201015 yr I can't help you with the breeding side of things GB, but I can say he is gorgeous!
January 25, 201015 yr Author I can't help you with the breeding side of things GB, but I can say he is gorgeous! thanks amy this bird is very nice he has a short top feather but im told he is geneticlly holding a very large top feather to pass on he is very beautiful so i decided that i will get him a very nice hen with tall feather on top ,wide and of the dark factor intill then he can enjoy time alone in my quarenteen cage im going to start looking around for right hen now alfter all he did breed some nice chicks id be stupid not to try him not one he breed had clubed wing so ..
