I would like to pick a name for this little one....should it be a girl's or boy's name? I am not very good at sexing babies.....but think it is a girl....but looks quite purple...so not too sure?????

i have a budgie just like that little one...i am 95% sure you have a female...

It is a female for sure.

Looks female to me too, but a lot can be lost in translation depending on light conditions and whether or not you used a flash when you took the photos

She said she didn't use flash, but the ambient lighting looks really bright to me. I, too, think it looks female, but it confuses me how she mentioned it looks purple, so was wondering if the picture just looks washed out.

 

Lealotta, can you get a picture in a very slightly darker atmosphere? Or maybe just have her/him face away from the light? (But prob not necc- it does look female. :grouphug: )

Actually, it very much looks male to me. If those photos accurately show the colour, how could he be a female, with the completely purple and blue cere? I am interested to know, I can see a tiny bit of white on his/her cere but I would have called that bird a male.

Thanks for your help and yes, I took the photos without flash....just natural light from the window.

The little one has very, very light brown areas under the nostrils...you can see it in the first photo....does this indicate that it is a girl? The lower part of the ceres looks purple.

Isn't the rule - generally if you see ANY white or brown on the cere, that it indicates it is a hen?

 

It is hard to sex a young budgie, maybe try another photo in a different light, that window has alot of lovely light coming through - what about trying in the evening when you have your lights on? That may make the photos look different again Or may wait til your lil baby is a bit older.

 

Either way, he/she is a gorgeous little bird

Pretty sure now that this is a little girl.....and her name is LIME.

 

I got another budgie end of last week and compared to the new boy Lime's cere looks really pale.

I like the names Molly, Mia, Ellie, Eisha (eee-sha), & Ollie (just in case its a boy hehe)

Definitely a male to me! My little henry had a cere the exact same colour at that age and it's bright blue now
