Posted January 19, 201015 yr I didn't want to buy another budgie for a little while, but I just couldn't walk past this little guy. Usually I don't like to buy my birds from pet shops but it was love at first sight. I spotted the little guy (not too sure whether it's a girl or boy) on Sunday when I went grocerie shopping and I had another look today and it was still there.... . I think it is a skyblue yelloface as its color is a lime green and the feathers around its bottom are blue. I had a look at some of the clearwing and dilute photos in this forum and think it might be a clearwing....or cinnamon dilute? Think the body color and cheek patches are too bright for dilute. Here some photos without flash: The ceres is quite pinkish but i think whitish around the nostrils. Edited January 19, 201015 yr by lealotta
January 19, 201015 yr Author i think this little budgie will glow in the dark...the color is different to the normal light green color. it's sort of fluorescent.
January 19, 201015 yr Not dilute, maybe not even yellowface. Looks greywing to me Heres one of mine and yours Edited January 19, 201015 yr by KAZ
January 19, 201015 yr Author Pretty sure it's a yellowface. Please have a look at the feathers around the vent and the middle of the belly....blue.
January 19, 201015 yr The budgies flight feathers are not grey, so I would go with clearwing or dilute...
January 19, 201015 yr The budgies flight feathers are not grey, so I would go with clearwing or dilute... Not a dilute, so that leaves one of those dodgy greywings Maybe ?

January 19, 201015 yr Why are you saying yellowface. Its a green budgie. Even mine shown above has that bluish colour by the legs you were seeing in yours and mine isnt yellowface.
January 19, 201015 yr Author Why are you saying yellowface. Its a green budgie. Even mine shown above has that bluish colour by the legs you were seeing in yours and mine isnt yellowface. yep, i saw the blue on your greywings leg feathers. what about the belly area? mine has blue on its belly. please have a look at the first photo. i did not use a flash - natural ligtning, but a little dark. maybe i should take some more pics tomorrow.
January 19, 201015 yr Not dilute, maybe not even yellowface. Looks greywing to me Heres one of mine and yours I can see grey on her flights, and I can also see that her tail quill is grey. So I think that means greywing, not clearwing. And I think she is too yellow to be yf2. I have read that even the greens start out with some blue and the yellow suffuses as they grow. I don't see any sign of cinnamon. Pet type notwithstanding, you couldn't find a closer match to Kaz' green greywing if you looked for a hundred years! I agree with Kaz. By the way, nice find!
January 19, 201015 yr The budgies flight feathers are not grey, so I would go with clearwing or dilute... Not a dilute, so that leaves one of those dodgy greywings Maybe ? LoL... The grey may come through more after a moult... So possibly could be... The blue on the belly may even die out a little after a moult too...
January 19, 201015 yr Not a greywing I'm afraid - very very much a clearwing. Wing markings are the hazy sort that you get with marked clearwings and not grey enough for a greywing. Many many clearwing tail quils show as grey - especially if the breeder has been outcrossing to normals to try and increase size. The tail itself is also not grey enough for a greywing but shows the clearer colour of a clearwing. Why oh why do I bother posting a whole topic on clearwings I ask myself???????? And it's definitely NOT a YF. Green budgies will very often show blue around rump and vent area, especially as youngsters. Quite normal! If it were a YF, at this age it would look like a BLUE budgie with a yellow face and then as it moults out would show more yellow suffusion later. Your beautiful baby is a light green clearwing.
January 19, 201015 yr Why oh why do I bother posting a whole topic on clearwings I ask myself????????because it helps us who are learning . Just maybe a little slow. (By the way, I might not have tail color down yet, but since I'm supposed to have learned cheek patches, I went back over the pics, and sure enough, bright colored cheek patches!) Finnie goes back to find and reread Nubbly's clearwing topic....... Here is the link to Nubbly's pinned topic on clearwings. Clearwing topic So tail quill and tail feather color are not neccessarily to be relied on, I guess. We should look more to whether the wing markings are fuzzy or washed out looking? That helps explain something for me. Several of my birds have wing markings that look almost spangle, but are obviously not. It's just that the grey is more washed out on the main part of the feather. So I suppose those are clearwings, as opposed to greywings, maybe. I will have to go look at those birds again, and compare the other indicators as well. Edited January 19, 201015 yr by Finnie

Thanks for your help. I haven't had a greywing, clearwing or dilute before so I don't have other budgies to compare. I went through all the clearwing topics and the pinned clearwing topic for hours to learn more. I find the budgie mutations so interesting and thanks so much for your help. I haven't had a young green series bird before either so i was confused to see the blue on bottom feathers and belly. The markings and the tail look sort of brownish - not grey. That's why I thought there was cinnamon involved. I might take some more photos today. It's really hard to take a photo of the color....color looks a little lighter in real life....photos turned out a litttle dark. Is Kaz Greywing a Greywing or a Clearwing too?
