My poor hen is doing badly, looked good a couple of days ago but getting inflamed again., Clearwing had a look had her and he said just a bad eye infection bad gee not getting anywhere, The vet to give her doxy because it is a broadspetrum antibiotic and stop the the cream because there are 2 antibiotics fighting with each other , so I did what he said but I thoink she is looking worse.

In the end I haven't given either a course of doxy, they are still on probiotics.

Lou Lou's eye is improving and Luvie is his usual charming self :) In fact I caught Lou Lou eating on her own yesterday. B)

Ionic silver can be found in any health food shop. Weigh up the costs julie....you may be able to get some locally from a healthfood shop or a naturopath.

I think Kaz is right. :D Out of the 20 odd Health Shops I rang last week 1 did have Ionic Silver liquid but by the time I had talked to Belinda I was in no mood to ring all 20 again to find out which one had it ... :emoticon112:

Besides, she specializes in Animal therapies and I knew I wouldn't have to take a punt on dosage - not that there is any difference but I don't know either. :D

Hi all, just reading post about chlorsig eye ointment. I was given this to help scaring after I had a skin cancer removed. Thought that was odd when I read eye ointment but didn't realise it would also help birds.Great tip. :)

Time for an update ... Lou Lou was her usual photogenic self so pics are a bit blurry B) .... yes, I know, I know- blame it on the camera, blame it on the bird!

In case you just can't see it  I can tell you that the swelling has almost disappeared and her inner eye is pink now and no longer red and inflamed. :)

I will continue to give her drops once a day for the rest of the week before popping her and Luvie back into the aviary.

Very pleased Renee, wish I can say the same about my hen. But she is improving. But then it was much worse than Lou Lou's, so guess it will take time.

Today is my last entry for Lou Lou and Luvie - they go back into the aviary later on today.

I have grown quite fond of them both and will miss their early morning chatter. B) Lou Lou, I have decided, is a cantankerous squawker, very cute but still a squawker! She is like a young teenager who has had her heart broken and now decided on principle that she doesn't want anything to do with the male species!

Of course that hasn't stopped Luvie, bless him!

But from her perspective he is a lustful old man and she regular gives him the heave-ho :D When pairing time comes I will have to be very careful with who I put her to. ;)

What I have discovered is that if I tut at her and speak in a low voice she settles down - and blows! It is always at this point that Luvie thinks he has his chance and tries to sidle up to her annoyance ...
