January 14, 201015 yr I found this preview to a film being released in Belguim by Jac Cuyten on the UK forum, some stunning birds!!!!! Interesting! Is it my imagination or do they seem to be breeding to a slightly different Standard to our ANBC Standard of bird? To me it looks like their birds are a tad shorter.

January 14, 201015 yr Author You are right Splat that is feathering. Feather is the MOST important consideration we should make when pairing. The only part of a bird we see is the feathers! Apart from the feet and beak. 10 years ago Directional feathering was all the rage, this was developed by increasing the feather length coming at 90 degrees from the cere. Now we have the buffalo look which is having feathering poiting down from the cere. One way to look at it is to imagine looking at bird front on, and viewing it as a clock face. The original directional feather was at about 3 and 9 o'clock, the buffalo look is more at 4 and 8 o'clock. How many breeders on this forum pair based on feather? I did some research on Jac Cuyten after seeing the youtube clip and found this article on feather, its a big file (13mb) and about 80 pages of photo's explaining the main feather types and the breeding outcomes. Originally we were only concerned with feather length, now we see feather in a 3 dimensional view, this document helps explain this. http://www.archive.org/details/AllAboutFea...-Expoperiquitos

I am still stuck on getting the shape of the bird and markings right (for the rare varieties). In my long-term plan schedule Feather considerations will become a priority in 2011+. At what point did you start taking Feather as a main consideration in pairing, as a Novice or later in your journey?

January 19, 201015 yr I don't know, I didn't like those budgies much at all... Why you ask...? Well, the budgies just seem to be more feather than anything... The crowns on the birds made me think someone had styled them with hair gel to get all those spikes... The feathers just didn't seem to flow with the budgies body and blend together as one... And the marks on some just look messy... Probably just me but I did not like them at all... Sorry...
January 19, 201015 yr Thanks Heath that was very informative and was the meeting last night. Going to try and look at the birds in a different eye now and stop thinking of variety and thisnk the over all bird. Worry about variety later, well look out my aviary will have a lot of cinnamon spangles soon not that I don't already have my share of them.

I agree with you ,they are very untidy in the feather, I am not sure,we could breed them, like that without importing in some birds,of that extra buff feather type. The other thing that struck me they did't seem very robust & they were siting on the floor & panting away & as for the standard, they are well past that, would have to change the standard.
