January 11, 201015 yr Pebbles looks like a boy from this angle :-) That's what I thought, but then I noticed the cere looks like it could be brown, instead of blue.
January 11, 201015 yr Author If Pebbles is a boy Im going to call him Bam Bam instead of Pebbles, if its a girl, Pebbles Pebbles for now though. Pebbles let me pat her belly last night usualy she wouldnt let me and just run away. Edited January 11, 201015 yr by animal_luver
January 11, 201015 yr Try adding a clearer photo before determining sex....that photo doesnt show the cere clearly or front on and in the best of light conditions.
January 13, 201015 yr Author Try adding a clearer photo before determining sex....that photo doesnt show the cere clearly or front on and in the best of light conditions. whats a cere??? I tried to take another photo with better light and angle but Sparky and Pebbles kept running away, i dont think they like having photos taken lol. p.s i pushed my finger onto pebbles belly but she didnt step up, so i left it at that. What am i doing wrong???
January 13, 201015 yr The Cere is the coloured bit above the beak (nose) In females it can be brown, brown with white, pale blue with white (out of breeding condition)Males have deep blue or purplish blue, but they DON'T have any signs of white - white on the cere indicates a female. As they are young, it may be harder to tell what sex they are too. Which is why a close up of their ceres would be good These are my birds. The first hen Skylah, has a white and brown cere. My hen on the right "Cinnamon" has a nice deep brown - she is in breeding condition. Santa, Sprite and Bugalugs all have deep blue ceres, though you can't really see Santa's in those Sorry I can't show you some young ones (with purply blueish ceres) as I don't have young birds and I don't take download other people's photos without permission Edited January 13, 201015 yr by Amy S
