Posted January 11, 201015 yr Hi, just starting back into budgies and have found the site very useful. I have a problem.... I have a couple of good breeding cabinets with some budgies in them. They are located under a awning at the side of the house. My garage is to dark to keep them in. There is a cat in the area who comes prowling only at night and has injured some of the budgies but luckily not bad. Any ideas to keep this cat away. I cannot get near it. Steve
January 11, 201015 yr Cat trap available from council to catch the cat in. Bird netting available from Bunnings Hardware to net the whole area to deter cats. Come in large sizes ready for netting fruit trees etc.

Steve My garage is dark too which is why I installed Arcadia Lighting which is bird-friendly spectrum lighting so that I can breed all winter.
January 11, 201015 yr There may be some herbs which they don't like... maybe do a search of cat deterant plants. I'd also get some traps. Once caught, you drop them off at the animal shelter, and do it again. The owners will soon learn. May take time though. Good luck. Edited January 11, 201015 yr by maesie

January 11, 201015 yr shot gun to shoot the cat My dad suggested this too when we had numerous male cats prowling around our house. Nasty smelly things, used to pee all over everything marking our yard as THEIR territory. My cat is female but STERILISED and still she paraded around as though she were on heat. Floozy of a cat! A wandering cat is a male , **** around the back yard and make it your territory, (Mods can I say that? ) Then tell me if it works Get a dog. We have not done this to rid our cat problem I don't know what has happened, but they haven't been around for almost a year now (YAYAYAY) We have a cat trap we used, but never caught anything in it.
January 11, 201015 yr Damm , system , Will test it out now, That other thread was on about how much work you did , Now ya give it up , the system does it

January 11, 201015 yr a simple tarp at night and a censer light works well the light pointing out toward the yard not toward the birds (cos-tic soda and milk blows them up inside out bound to work...at first sip that stuff kills anything )as apposed to shot gun which can miss or just wooned no seriously tarp shade cloth at night and a radio left on
January 12, 201015 yr l found a website that has a few good ideas in discouraging a cat to come into your yard. http://cats.about.com/cs/catmanagement101/...trepellants.htm
January 12, 201015 yr l found a website that has a few good ideas in discouraging a cat to come into your yard.http://cats.about.com/cs/catmanagement101/...trepellants.htm It's nice to have lots of ideas to try. But I had to laugh at the rock garden suggestion! My driveway is made of rough stones, and my "tender pawed" cats love nothing more than to chase the stones if you throw them down the drive! But I'm sure that if one of those ideas doesn't help, there are plenty to try, and hopefully something will work. I'm sorry. Rocks keeping cats away!
January 13, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the ideas, I will give them a try, getting 2 more pairs friday so will see what happens. (Don't think I will try the shotgun)
January 22, 201015 yr Author I have the 4 new budgies and I am trialling a net from bunnings. So far so good, will add a sensor light soon. Steve

Seriously though, nowhere have I personally attacked a member who loves cats. If you have taken offense, I apologise. But a passing silly comment does not ground anything like your above remark.

The great Cat vs Dog debate was carried out a while ago on another topic and got quite heated - I think Kaz was trying to pre-empt this topic going down that path :emoticon112:
