Not Sure Of The Sex On These Two

Featured Replies

We aren't exactly sure on these two lovelies sex.

Darla's cere is a light mauve and at tims starts going blue nostrils.

This next one we have named Jesse, we found jesse and some of the poor things feathers look frayed, we are now treating jesse for mites.

Jesse's cere a pale blue with white around the nostrils.

Any help on possible sexing would great.

It looks as though you've used the flash to take your photos. Its much better to take photos without the flash as you get a clearer picture.

Just judging on what you're saying makes me think Darla may be male and Jesse is female, but clearer pics would give us a better indication :rip:

Are you able to post some more pictures up? :sadsorry:

wish we could, the picture was taken via laptop, still waiting for our camera to be repaired. :sadsorry:

:sadsorry: Ahhh gosh that must be hard for you not being able to take lots more! Being a budgie lover makes me take oodles of pics. I'd hate to not be able to photos.

Maybe one of the more experienced members on here will be able to guess better than me :rip:

okay since you havent a clear natural light photo of these guys..................rule of thumb...any white on a budgies cere means female. Now you tell us if you see white, even if its with blue.

Kaz,

I just had a real close look at Darla, Darla's cere is mauve with white nostrils, with also a touch of blue down the middle of the cere.

Jesse is blue and very white around the nostrils.

Amy,

It is killing me without our camera, we've been told it will be at least two more weeks before we get it back and when we do, it'll be snap shots of our babies like there is no tomorrow.

jesse sounds like a hen, with Darla are we talking a pale blue or dark blue? and also what are the age of the birds?

Nerwen,

The age of Darla is about 4-6 months old, just had another look at Darla's cere and it is now pink with white nostrils  I have no idea what is going on with Darla, is it normal for a cere to change this often?

Jesse, I think is alot older, not sure on exactly how old she is, we found her a few streets away cornered by a cat, I chased the moggie away, poor Jesse looked a wreck, we took her to our vet and he checked her out, she was exhusted and had mites. She is a grumpy little thing, but it is understandable, we put out a lost and found but still no replies to it. We are more than happy to keep Jesse, we have got her reasonably settled, but I think she isn't used to being held, she does give these funny looks when we give her little kisses, Jesse is getting so much TLC. We have already fallen in love with her, but we do have to let her out of her cage at different times because she tries to attack Hedwig and Darla. Our vet said she is either 8 months or older because of the colour of her iris.

She is also the largest budgie I have ever seen, she is at least 1/2 - 1 inch taller then the other budgies.

My opinion is that they are both girls, because you have said white in your descriptions of both of their ceres.

Also, if you can take a laptop picture from further away, it might not have so much glare. Who knows, might give a better view, even if it's smaller.
