Posted January 7, 201015 yr It's a lovely snowy day here. We're supposed to get about 6" in the next day or two. I wouldn't be surprised if they send the kids home from school early. There were a lot of school closings reported this morning in other areas. However, not nearly as bad as I hear they've been getting in New England! Something like 33 inches in Vermont and over 3 feet in parts of New York state! My front yard today:
January 7, 201015 yr I am your next door neighbor here in Ohio, we have the same forecast, and it looks the same way outside today.
January 8, 201015 yr Love the photos! I miss snow, but we sorta don't get snow here in Perth, West Australia - unless its down in the Sitrling Ranges, and even then there's no guarantee for snow. :emoticon112:
January 8, 201015 yr that is so pretty i have never been to the snow and its only 2 hours away it looks beautiful
January 8, 201015 yr It looks beautiful out side your but cold. How do your birds go in that condition, they would freeze thier little buts off.
January 8, 201015 yr Author It snowed all day yesterday, and looks even prettier now. I love this stage. It's the late February-dirty-slushy stage I could live without! :emoticon112: Elly, my kids are on 2 hour delay today. How are the roads near you? My family is just above you in Detroit! My brother has a snow removal/lawn mowing business, so this is good for him. It looks beautiful out side your but cold. How do your birds go in that condition, they would freeze thier little buts off. Yeah, that's why I can't have an outside aviary. (Only in summer, but then they'd have to move back in, so I don't plan to provide them with double accomodations. ) It's always been my dream to have a dog kennel. If I ever got to build one, I would put an indoor/outdoor aviary in a corner of it. I have read that given a choice, budgies love to go outside and play in the snow, as long as they can go back into the warmth when they're done. Would be cool to see. But alas, we have 2 kids in college right now, hubby working on MBA and 3 younger kids getting closer to college every year! For now I get to do budgies instead of dogs cuz they are smaller and cheaper! Edited January 8, 201015 yr by Finnie
January 8, 201015 yr Schools are closed today, the snow is just hitting us now. I got about 3 inches over the night, I will be out there snow blowing once the world wakes up it is only 7:15 AM here right now. If you do a search for pictures you will see snow pictures I have posted over the last few year too . Really what we get is nothing compared to the New England states but it is enough, I would rather have a warmer climate but this is where we are for now. I would miss the beauty of the snow in the morning after the snow fall nothing can compare to that especially with the stillness.

We are in the same time zone :fear I am from Michigan, and am used to a lot more snow than we get here in Indiana. I always think, "If we're going to have yucky cold winter, we may as well have the snow to go with it." In fact, just before we moved here, I had taken up cross country skiing, which was fun, and I was looking forward to doing it each year. But here we barely get any snow, and it melts before you can get any good trails packed. I think I saw pictures of your old husky out in the snow, before.
January 8, 201015 yr Wow, they're great pics!! Its going to be 109f (43c) here for the next couple of days, although it will be a few degress cooler up here in the hills. If you want to swap some snow for a few degrees just let me know! I'm a keen weather watcher, so here's a link to my weather station if you want to see whats going on here. :fear http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation...sp?ID=ISACRAFE2
January 8, 201015 yr yes I wouldn't mind a bit of snow at the moment as for the next few days we are going to be 41 plus, poor birds I prefer winter than summer any day, at least you can warm yourself up but it's hard to cool yourself down.
January 8, 201015 yr Hi Finnie, what a contrast its 10.45am here and I've just put the cooling on in my birdroom, we're heading for a top temp of 42C which I think is about 107F. Clearwing

Clearwing Wow, that is HOT! The hottest weather I have ever been in was one summer on vacation on the East Coast, it got to 106 F. Intolerable! Went out to dinner that night, and even the A/C in the restaurant couldn't cope! yes I wouldn't mind a bit of snow at the moment as for the next few days we are going to be 41 plus, poor birds I prefer winter than summer any day, at least you can warm yourself up but it's hard to cool yourself down. I'm with you there, as far as getting warmer vs cooler. Heat grinds me to a halt! BUT, I love the green growing stuff so much, and the sunlight, that I am no fan of winter. It's only pretty when it snows. The rest of the time it is grey bare branches and muddy looking ground. Ug!
January 9, 201015 yr Here we never get 109F hottest I would say would be 95F and that is very hot for us, norms is around 85F for summer here in Ohio, find it funny there was supposed to be a blast of snow yesterday, schools closed NO SNOW kids should have went to school, it is snowing now so maybe it will be today instead lol. My husband and son are off camping (they are staying in a lodge) through a dad/son organization they love this weather sledding all weekend long.

You know, Elly, sometimes our weather goes straight to you, and sometimes it veers north to Michigan. I was surprised when you said your schools were closed, and it was after the storm had passed, and you would already have been covered by then, and the roads cleared and ready for school. I guess the main storm must have missed you guys! My kids go with our church youth group up to a "snow camp" in Michigan. They have a blast, and there are always lots of snowy fun photos!
January 10, 201015 yr If it doesn't stop raining here soon I'm going to go completely snakey! I has poured like a monsoon all day! I hate rain...I'd rather have 10 feet of snow than a day of rain.
