To Change, Or Not To Change..?

Well, lately I've had the idea to maybe rearrange Nibbles cage so he has something new to discover. The thing is, it's been the same set up since we got him, which was 3 and a half years ago :hb: Some of his perches are beginning to look a bit old and tired, which is no wonder really  His main perch is a fork shape and fits perfectly in his cage so I think I'd have trouble to find a branch like that, though you never know. So if i were to change it, it'd have to look different. We have lots of branches down the bottom of the garden, as we back onto a reserve, but I'm a bit reluctant to go down there due to yesterday when we discovered we have a resident red back belly snake living down there. :D But really, my question is, should I change the set up of his cage, or do you think this will upset him and should I just leave it until the perches REALLY need to be replaced?

Here is a picture of our set up at the moment, with nibbles in it :hb: Sorry for the messy cage, will be cleaning it soon!

I hope the images are the right size, I'm pretty sure they are, but if there not, I'm terribly sorry!

Thanks :)

Well, I've gone a little overboard, buying my budgies toys and perches, so I have an excess. Therefore, every time I do a full cage clean, I rearrange everything 100%. That used to be every 2 weeks or so. Now I'm a little lazier, and it's about once a month or less. They always do seem a little confused when I first put them back in, but within seconds, they are playing or eating.

With Nibbles being 3 1/2 and not used to it, you might want to start with just moving the same stuff around a little, and then later replacing some of it with new things. I'm sure he'll know it's still his same cage, and still in the same room where his normal view is familiar.

Rotation with toys and perches is always good, if you can do it 1 a month that is awesome but at least every 3 months. How does he act with his mirror? It is recommended that you do not give budgies mirrors in their cage and only for outside play time.

Thanks for the advice, I'll start to move a couple of his toys around soon.

We haven't had a problem with mirrors in his cage, and he seems to enjoy having another 'company' when the whole family is out. He does like to look at his mirror and give it kisses, but he's more affectionate with us.
