I am looking to get a budgie for my children and would like to get a male one. Please help me determine which Budgie below is a male. Thanks in advance.

#1 -I am guessing with researching Budgie sexing that this one is a Hen as it looks to have a white ring around it holes.

Hi and welcome. Sexing budgies via the internet can be hard, but to do so we need CLEAR photos of the cere without flash. I can't comfortably guess with any of those photos above. Perhaps you could take some more photos.

I agree with Maesie, about needing better pictures. But I will say, upon seeing the 1st picture you thought was hen, I wasn't convinced. The 2nd picture of same bird looks male to me. So you can see that a different angle or lighting can make a difference. If you can get more pics, try for 2 or more of each bird, so we can see different points of view.

I also agree with Anne. If you're just going to have one bird, hens are good. It's when you start adding more birds, that group dynamics comes into play. (Watch how the birds act, and pick the one that pulls at your heart most.)

Oh, I thought of one more thing. If you have to choose between two favorites, go for personality over looks. After you have it home for a while, you will love it's looks, anyway, but you don't want to be saying, "man, I should have picked the friendlier one!" :cake:

New clear cere pictures taken in normal light with no flash please ? :cake:

I totally agree! I once picked a pet budgie for it's cute looks, but i should have picked the one who was nibbling on my son's finger, as the "cute" one was the most terrified creature i'd ever seen, she'd just about have a heart attack whenever anyone came near her cage- it took AGES to tame her!!

This is EXACTLY what I did, too. The "friendly" one kept getting between me and the "pretty" one, and poking his beak out of the bars, as if to say "pick me!" At home with the pretty one, I discovered that he was the most freaked out paranoid bird ever.

It turned out okay, cuz I went back later and got the friendly one, too, and am having the most fun ever, because he likes me so much! :fear (Oh, and he's gorgeous, to boot!)
