Posted January 6, 201015 yr I'm of the impression that lutino chicks with pink eyes won't have the same cere colouring as other budgies for sexing. Is this correct? If so, how do I tell the sex? This is Alphie: http://i49.tinypic.com/10rs5y0.jpg Edited January 6, 201015 yr by KAZ picture changed to link as it was HUGE !!!!!
January 6, 201015 yr okay, first of all, she is not a lutino, she is a yellow faced, or golden faced albino. If she was a lutino, she would be a consisten buttercup yellow, rather than a white bird that looks like the yellow has bled through the feathers. These are often called a creamino. The blue you see in the photo is because she is from a blue father, rather than a grey father, thus the blue suffusion. Secondly, the females' ceres will colour up as normal, the males will not go blue, but will remain a pinkish colour. How old is this bird? I am bad at age-ing, but i would guess at her being young, thus the cere has not changed yet. There is enough white to indicate that she is a hen in my opinion.
January 6, 201015 yr Author Thanks Dave. She is young...about 11-12 weeks I think. She actually doesn't have any blue ...that must just be poor lighting or my poor photography But that's very interesting about her being a creamino...thanks for explaining that to me. Guess Alphie will hae to become allison eh? LOL
January 6, 201015 yr You could get away with Alfie as a girl name, if you like it. Or maybe Elfie. My girl Finnie started out as Finn, and by the time I discovered "he" was a "she", I couldn't get my tongue around changing what I called her!
