January 5, 201015 yr may i ask whats your fire plan do you have oneNo Well this concerns me Kaz As you say you have bushland quite close around you and from what we have experienced already this summer in WA it looks like it may be the worst on record ... I did hear on the news or somewhere of someone throwing wet dunas over the aviaries to keep the smoke out and reduce embers attacks ....I guess that is what I would do ... I do have a few white wire cages but I wouldn't be able to fit all my birds in them ... this thread is really making me think about it .... Edited January 5, 201015 yr by renee
January 5, 201015 yr thats a okay idea if the fires not close but its ember attack only when i was in fires last year however we had shade cloth and sprinklers on aviary 24 /7 when the fires came through and passed the shed got so hot the birds water had evapuated dry with in half hour the aviary was 60 degree when my brother returned to it i was certain my birds were all going to be dead but i didn't lose one the all went to ground and sat it out i was very lucky he gave them all fresh water straight away the aviry stayed warm for days as was covered for next few days with more ember attacks i when i returned to find we were at risk yet again and in middle of it all put all birds into holding cages and trailer tarp then left town with my uncles help bless him birds are pretty reziliant i found out then
