We have a fire over the back of us now.

Sounds of sirens as streets around us are closed off, and also many many helicopters with water going back and forth.

Maybe 3 kms away. We have bush strips all around us, so I guess it coulod come this way. BUT it looks like the helicopters are winning.....they are flying low over our house. We seem to be in the flight path of where they are getting their water.

The news says the fire is out of control and in the suburb next to us. They have made those people evacuate. Its going in a different direction to us.

I saw this on the news - its the one in Caversham isn't it? Looks nasty.

I hope your birds and aviaries will be okay Kaz. If there is risk of the fire heading your way, please let me know - I will come and help you with anything you may need help with.

I hope Birds n All will be okay.

Bushfire out of control in Perth

CHLOE JOHNSON

January 4, 2010 - 7:35PM

An out of control bushfire in Perth's north-eastern suburbs of Beechboro and Caversham has now been controlled.

Fire and Emergency Services Authority were still warning residents to be alert and watch for signs of fire.

"There are no lives or homes threatened by the fire. Although there is no immediate danger you need to keep up to date in case the situation changes," FESA said.

Fifty firefighters, one bombing helicopter and three helitacs had been battling the blaze since 4.15pm.

"Watch and Act" means people in the area need to put their bushfire survival plan into action and leave the area.

Oh My God! I hope the wind is blowing the smoke away from you.

Be safe Kaz! Have you got an emergency plan for if they ask you to evacuate?

Well thank goodness for that!

Gosh, Kaz, I'm glad this is under control! In the first picture I was worried about your birds breathing in smoke, but after reading through the rest of the thread, I realized there was a lot more to worry about than just that!

Is a fire evacuation plan something everyone has to have at the ready? What would you and Ken do? There are places around here where people need to be prepared for floods, but my house is not that close to the river.

I thought about you the other day Kaz when they said fires near Perth. I am really pleased that the fires are under control. It's pretty scarey.

Be safe Kaz and I am thinking on you and Ken and birds

woa! that was a close one. I hope the bird shop was okay. Is the chocolate factory out that way too??

Good thing the smoke blew away from your place. must have been exciting watching the choppers flying over

I'm glad it is all okay now xoxo I am to interested in your fire plan with so many birds in your care?

We need a fire plan here too as we have farm land over our back fence

I was wrong.... it wasnt about 3 kms away or even in Caversham as stated on the news. The fire was at the end of our road into Beechboro....half to 1 km away  Also as I went to look this morning and took some  there was still smouldering ground, and as I watched a tree caught fire and we had to call the fire tenders back in that were still in the area. 001-29.jpg004-31.jpg005-24.jpg008-25.jpg

as it turned out the fire was closer to us and nowhere near the bird place. A long way too from the chocolate factory....so there will be chocolate next time you come

That is a relief! After the budgies, I was getting concerned for the chocolate!

Good job spotting that fire re-starting!

I love that chocolate factory. I am going there day 1 on my next visit.

Hang on, I just remembered I am on a diet, and I hit the gym today for the first time in ages (body is feeling it now though.)

Oh well, I will be on hols, so i can eat chocolate if I want - when I come to pick up Quiche!!!

Oh Gosh! That is terrible the authorities got the locations wrong!! And at the end of your road too, that's really bad. I know you said they sent you an sms to "watch out for flying embers and sparks" but they failed to tell you to go look down the road :(

I'm VERY glad you, Ken, your birds and other animals are all okay. That is what's most important. :)
