Honestly I am not sure. Interesting if it is true, as i love the look of Spangles, so i breed them for that reason. The larger size would be a bonus.

I grabbed a few more :) as promised and here they are...

Pair 1 - Grey Cock and GreyGreen Spangle Hen - 4 chicks

Monster - a GreyGreen Spangle Cock

Monster and the other chicks - the second one is a normal grey I am guessing, numbers 3 and 4 are too young to tell

Pair 2 - a Light Green Spangle Cock and a Grey Green Hen - 2 chicks. The eldest is not a spangle, too early to tell with the next one. The parents were very protective of their young. Not biting or even trying to bite, but simply trying to push their chicks under them for protection.

Pair 3 - a Light Green Opaline Dommie Pied/Lutino and a Light Green Cinnamon Wing Hen - 2 chicks, no red eyes, the eldest looks like a dommie pied, the second does not

I know there are a few rings scattered around in the nestboxes. That is all right. I prefer to ring them too young and then ring them again if I need to, then to wait too long and not get the ring on at all - that has happened 3 times now, all early in my "ringing experience". I will collect those rings when I clean out the nestboxes over the weekend.

Wow Dave, their growing up fast and look at my little Monster getting his feathers, before you know it he'll be out of the nestbox and all grown up :)

Libby.

Father is opaline, so oldest chick with the white down is a hen, right?

Yup!

Looking good Dave!

They are looking good Dave, can't wait to see them when they leave the nest :)

For Monster, that day will be around before you know it.

The others will take a little longer.

Well obviously not good enough, as the little one has died. It was always possible, but it was not from not being fed, as it was healthy. Strangely enough, when i have had others die before so young, they often have yellow belly, or are pale. This one was black, like there was som type of internal bleeding or some time and the blood have left veins and just spread under the skin.

Anyway, all other eggs removed, so:

Pair 1 - Grey Cock and GreyGreen Hen - 3 chicks

Monster - GreyGreen Spangle Cock

Grey Normal

Unable to tell the third yet

Pair 2 - Light Green Spangle Cock and GreyGreen Hen - 2 chicks

GreyGreen Normal

Opaline (hoping it is a spangle) hen

Pair 3 - Green Opaline Dommie Pied/Lutino Cock and Light Green Cinnamon Wing Hen - 2 chicks

Green Opaline Dommie Pied Hen

Green Opaline Dommie Pied Hen

I think both chicks are dominant pied opaline hens - remarkably no lutes.

We will see how things go

Better too early than too late!!!

Of course Macka, feel free to show us hwo it is done. I cannot ever recall seeing a bird of yours. Why is that?

Update today

Pair 1 - Grey Cock and GreyGreen Spangle Hen

Chick 1 - Monster - GreyGreen Spangle Cock - had jumped out of box, but I put him back in - squawker!!!

Chick 2 - Grey Normal - will look just like Dad

Chick 3 - too young to tell.

Pair 2 - Light Green Spangle Cock and Grey Green Hen

Chick 1 - Grey Normal

Chick 2 - Green Opaline Hen

This pairing tells me that Dad is split blue. If not, there is no way that we could get a grey normal. He needs to be carrying the recessive blue gene to get a grey normal. Interesting.

Pair 3 - Light Green Opaline Dominant Pied Cock/Lutino and Cinnamon Wing Light Green Hen

Chick 1 - Light Green Opaline Dominant Pied Hen

Chick 2 - Light Green Opaline Dominant Pied Hen

New :hmm: hopefully tomorrow

It sure has been a while since my last update. In that time, there has been one sad loss of a Sommie Pied baby, some reclassification, and generally good growth.

they look adorable Dave :P Keep up the great work! Sorry to hear about the Dommie Pied

Ha! Look at Monster. Are you keeping any?

Looking great Dave :P Wow you have a lot of budgies now..........you will have to build more or bigger aviaries :D

They look gorgeous, Love Monster!

The little Green Opaline hen - is it just me or does she seem to have a really clear mantle? I ask because I find it unusual as most have a more "dirtier" undefined mantle. Does that make sense? :D:P

Wow Dave, i can't get over how grown up Monster is, he's still my Favorite by far :laughter:

It is amazing how fast they grow up.

I was looking at cages, and looking under nestboxes to the floor of cages. I could see the little opaline next door, but i could not see Monster. I looked at the cage and I could see the Grey Cock sitting next to the GreygreenSpangle Hen, but where was Monster. It was then that I noticed. It was not the GreyGreen Spangle Hen sitting next to the GreyCock, but rather it was Monster. From floor runner to Perching and flying in two days.

They grow up so fast.

I did all new seed and water for all cages tonight.

Too tired now, new :D tomorrow.
