March 15, 201015 yr Author I didn't think of that! That would mean I could have nine cages! Would that be too many for a first timer? I guess I don't need to use them all at once Gosh exciting times!
March 16, 201015 yr Author Would that be too many for a first timer? No such thing is there??? Now that you've said that, I guess there isn't!
March 22, 201015 yr Author okay, well after today's lovely freak thunderstorm and flooding, I have found the aviary roof leaks in a few places. I have also decided that the open end of the aviary isn't such a flash idea as the rain seemed to like coming in that way. It will only work if it had a cover on it that could be opened and closed. SO I shall take the wire mesh from open top end, and close it with another bit of roofing tin. Bonus with that is I will have another bit of wire mesh that I can use for the junior flights or for breeding cabinets :D The FLOOR suffered as the bottom of the aviary isn't sealed to the concrete pad. So I have decided to place 3-5 cm rectangular piping along the floor and place pavers on top and act as a false floor so the water runoff will go into the pipes under the paving. This way I will be able to level the floor as well. I am not allowed to level it with concrete or anything so this is my next best option. Hopefully it will work. I will be putting sides on the aviary too so water doesn't get in. Most of the birdroom will be on the concrete but the back fence side will be on pavers. As the concrete pad stops a metre before the fence, I have to improvise with the pavers which then will allow roof rain runoff to seep into the ground and the drain, rather than in the birdroom. Does any of this make sense? Also I am in the process of making some dowel perches - does anyone know where I can get some clasps or clips that will hold them in place on the frame? And how would I fix them to the aviary? I am doing this all on my own so I am trying to figure out best options. Sorry if none of this makes sense.
March 24, 201015 yr Author I made my first doweling perch today.Quite proud of myself It's not fabulous, seeing as I have a tiny cordless drill and no saw to cut the dowels, but it does the job and the birds seem to like it. I only have to make another three now I will take photos tomorrow as by the time I finished putting it up - the lighting wasn't right.

March 24, 201015 yr Author Go Girl !!!! aww thanks try useing thoughs black snap ties zip i meant The cable tie things? That's what I ended up using for attaching them to the aviary mesh. It looks a bit funny and I think the youngest hen (blue rung) will have great joy in destroying it ahaha she loves all sorts of different things - very playful little youngster. Now all I need to do is recruit some people to help me move existing aviary over and start building and attaching the other one! yayayay!
March 30, 201015 yr There are a couple of kinds of clips you can get for attaching perches depending on where and what you are doing. By the way Here's your boy and he doesnt have a name  Edited March 30, 201015 yr by KAZ
March 30, 201015 yr Author oh Oh OH He is sooo gorgeous!! :grouphug: But he is YOUR special boy, I'll just borrow him and return him with some chicks, that's only fair
April 7, 201015 yr Hi Amy, gosh yeah I can believe the aviary would have flooded in that storm what a storm that was :fear Nice reading about all your plans though I am sure you will work it all out in the end. I have now got 6 tiels left, my original pair and their two daughters (cinnamon and a pied) and one unrelated male, a whiteface and just bought a stunning Lutino the other day hoping it to be a male but I am pretty sure it is a girl ah well She is just sooooo gorgeous though, not selling her but might sell the pied girlie and get this lutino a nice male (would prefer an "albino" but they are not so easy to find so I guess any male split for lutino would do ) So ummm this gorgeous blue boy Kaz posted a piccie of is not technically "yours" then, well, not YET
March 29, 201114 yr Author okay, it has been awhile since I've posted on my thread. SO here is my newest addition that I plan on incorporating into my aviary....somehow LOL sorry the image is so tiny - It's the sellers photo. It's roughly 2m x 2m x 2.4m (at the gable) It comes with pavers if I choose to have them, and as I have a spare aviary at the side of the house, I don't have to disturb my birds to dismantle their aviary. All I need to do is take out the two panels at the back of the aviary and connect the shed to it...again somehow I'll get there! I'm just so happy I finally have a shed that I can store things and but my breeding cabinets in
March 31, 201114 yr Author Thanks ladies Brought the shed home yesterday....after a few minor incidents. Firstly whilst dismantling the shed, dad cut himself "oh she'll be right" he says, "cup of concrete styles is it?" I say. He has a look at it "oh, oh umm about that, it's a tad deeper than I thought" I went and had a look - he SHOULD go get stitches but a few steri strips later and a "harden up attitude" he's back into drilling screws out and pulling off panels. GO DAD haha Finally it's on the trailer "Hi ho silver AWAY" Yes Dad does have a strange mind but he's good for a laugh Half way home, with the wind blowing quite strongly, we hear a noise......the jiggling of the wind and movement of the trailer resulted in the sheet metal cutting the rope and the roof of the shed flying through the air, only to crash land on the road before bouncing into the median strip. I laughed. I couldn't help it - my dad is the safest of safe people you will meet and for that to happen, I just cracked up. He looked at me so apologetically and I was "it's okay, it's only the roof and at least there were no cars around for it to damage. We backed up to retrieve rogue shed roof.....ohhh dear it's a mess, but oh well as dad says, she'll be right! Nothing another two panels can't fix... oh and me bashing the end with a hammer to straighten it out So there are the adventures of me and my dad - a father/daughter outing that was looong overdue Was worth every second of time and effort and worth every dent the shed roof copped. P.s shed will be up soon so pics will be taken
April 6, 201114 yr Author okay I have a slight dilemma Now that I have the shed, a spare aviary, mouse proof wire, some shelving, a sink, a window and some wooden beams, I have no idea how to place the shed!! I know I want to attach it to the existing aviary, but am unsure on how to attach it or where to attach it. My mind is going a total blank. All the plans I keep drawing end up wrong and I'm getting slightly frustrated at it Any ideas on how I could do it?
April 6, 201114 yr sounds like areal adventure Amy,I am glad no one was behind you though, would of being just awful if the roof landed on another car. Same thing happened to me years ago, My ex bought me a new ladies bush bike, my very first ever new bike, he tied it on the roof rack of the car but he left it in the plastic covering it came in and when a semi trailer passed us going in the opposite direction, OFF flew my lovely new bike, bounced and tumbled on the high way. We retrieved it, Lee had to replace both wheels, seat, handle bars and the gears were wonky, he fixed it the best he could but it was never the same. I would ride up the street and would have to wheel it backwards all the way home as it would seize up for some reason and only go backwards. so much more a lovely new bike.
April 8, 201114 yr Author Can you do a diagram for us of what space you have and dimensions of each ? Sorry for the delay! Been trying to get measurements and stuff. This is the original aviary - it has my current flock in it - measurements are 2.67m L x 1.9m w x 1.9m h This is my shed, which I have now found to be 2.25 x 2.25 x 2.4 (not 2 x 2 x2.4 - little bit extra room always helps) This is my spare aviary which I will be using for parts - from memory as it's in bits and I can't get to all of it - it's around 2.5 x 1.9 x 1.8.....I think I was thinking I still want to keep the plan similar to what I have previously posted on here, but not quite sure how to go about it all
May 18, 201113 yr Author Some new additions to the aviary arrived today - have been waiting for a few weeks for them. In the box Couldn't wait til I got home (I was at mum's house) so I built one I plan on using them for seed and/or water, possibly also use the bottom tier for a planter for grass (even though I know said grass would be gone within half a day!) But that's okay - I have about 8 giant pots of grass especially for my birds I also have purchased a misting kit - still in it's box at the moment and I haven't taken a photo
June 1, 201113 yr Author I've been straining my brain trying to figure out a way of mouse proofing my aviary. I have got a few sheets of SunTuf Polycarbonate Roofing in 2m lengths which I have been considering cutting into .90m lengths to go around the bottom halves of the aviary - so mice can't climb up, yet it still lets light and heat in on the floor, also would keep it a bit drier. These would be placed OVER the already existing aviary mesh. Is this a good idea or not? I am sealing the floor with pavers (at least around the edges) - weird to have pavers on top of a concrete pad I know:blink: but seeing as I am unable to have it there as a permanent fixture, it seems to be my only solution? I am yet to put my shed up - I may end up not being able to do that too Are there any other mouseproof solutions that I could do? I have got baits and traps around that have been working really well, but it doesn't stop the little blighters entering the aviary

Also block holes at roof level if mice can climb anything ( trees fences ) to come in at roof level.
