Black Eyes... On A Normal Green?

Featured Replies

Posted

I have tried to search for information about this as I know black eyes are a form of mutation with some budgies and their colour OR they are the colour of eyes of the very young.

However my Bugalugs is neither young (he will be 3 in March) nor is he a mutation, just a plain simple Normal Green BUT he doesn't have any ring around his eyes at all, they are completely black. I was discussing this with Clouds birds today and she said it may be a mutation of some sort?

Is he maybe a Dark Eyed Clear? :) I'm a bit confused

That's the best I could get right now sorry

Could be split recessive pied. I've heard of recessive splits displaying one or both eyes without irises much like their fully recessive counterparts. Its a bit like how normals split opaline can show opalescence in the feathers around the shoulder/head/neck.

At least thats my thoughts.

i have a dark eyed spangle 2 year old hen

i wondered myself if she came from a pied breeding

she is a light green spangle nothing more nothing less

the only other thought i had was a brown wing but i dont know anything about that mutation as far as i could even tell brown wings from my faded out black looking winged birds :)

im told theirs not much diffrents from the black to the brown wing but its the eyes you tell with

but i dont know

rips the one to ask about brown wings i guess

as for your cock

like my hen

i dont know

pied breed is my best guess :D

I DO know that his mother was a dark green normal and his father was a blue/yellow/green recessive pied. Now that i'm learning mutations :) I can say that, where as before I'd have said patchy blue/yellow/green/ So that would make him split for recessive pied wouldn't it?

His wings are definitely black, I can't see any hint of brown in them at all :):D:(

Have you maybe put him in certain type of lighting to see if they are just very dark vs not there?

I am sure it happens with genetics anything is possible.

I shall try and get him in some brighter light ( without blinding him of course :P:D ) and will see if i can get a decent photo of his eyes

The recessive pied likely has a bit to do with his wrong eye colours.

Remember my funny dom pied with the no iris rings ?

I caught my Bugalugs this morning as I thought he looked abit "off". Turns out he is fine, he was just having a quiet moment haha

In the process, I checked his eyes - he does have the faintest hint of an iris ring after all. :) whoops

Seeing as most of my birds' iris rings are large and very visible, I would think the same thing as you did.
