January 10, 201015 yr I've made cardboard nest boxes out of packing boxes (good solid thick cardboard). I reinforce the entry hole with wood and there were no chewing issues at all. I use a removable concave insert which can be re-used but otherwise I love the disposable factor of cardboard boxes which can be made to watever size you desire (provided you have the right sized boxes to start working with). Great do you have any photos of them Dean, I thought of buying large pieces of solid thick cardboard and designing it from there unless I can get cardboard boxes thick enough. I have also thought od useing the concaves too as that would stop the chewing through the bottom.
January 10, 201015 yr I dont think I would ever give cardboard nestboxes a go. I just dont believe in them.
January 25, 201015 yr They look like a great idea as far as cleaning and what not.But i think the birds would built up too much condensation, how warm is a nest box with 3 or 4 babies in it you can feel the heat when you lift the door, and the prices are way high i could have 2 nest box's made professionally for the price of one.I would be interested to know how it works out though
January 25, 201015 yr I dont think I would ever give cardboard nestboxes a go. I just dont believe in them. Me neither. But I'd be very interested in your trial if and when you go ahead with them. :yellowhead: Just one question, cleaning .... wouldn't it dampen the cardboard too much? :thankyou:

And I think shippinhg was free, due to I ordered other stuff. But it's taking forever for them to ship it!
January 26, 201015 yr Does anyone have any experience with Plastic nest Boxes??? Also does anyone know of a local manufacturer??? (anywhere in Australia), i know of a supplier in the UK, but because they are plastic and cant be flatpacked, frieght will be massive. Are they these ones ? http://thecragstud.webs.com/apps/webstore/...cts/show/405928 http://thecragstud.webs.com/newsizenestboxes.htm http://thecragstud.webs.com/apps/webstore/...cts/show/888782 If so, could you inquire about their assembly process and maybe ask for them unassembled and do it yourself when they get here ? :fingerscrossed: Edited January 26, 201015 yr by KAZ
January 26, 201015 yr It's a Hagen Vision. I think we're talking about this one, Kaz. He said suppler in the UK...thats why I posted those ones thinking they are suitable for show budgies. The Hagen ones look small. My wooden boxes are 10 inches by 8 by 8 inches. ? http://www.petsr4u.com/proddetail.asp?prod=83385
January 27, 201015 yr These are the ones that I looked at from Europe were these ones: http://www.oesieg.de/intro/default_e.html I'm pretty sure they flat pack them... I was looking at getting my whole avairy decked out in plastic flight cages and everything but it was just to expensive for me... this is the thread that I did on it back in Dec '08 http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=23982

Heathrow, have you thought of making a plan for something like those and going to a few places that make perspex objects and getting quotes. Perspex comes in non see through and colours as well. If you get cheaper quotes for greater numbers of them they will become a saleable item and others may order some as well. Might be worth the inquiries...save shipping costs etc. Factor it all in, and shop around.
June 23, 201014 yr Assembled First chance to trial the plastic nestboxes. One only in the trial right now. I have another I might use as well.

July 17, 201014 yr Wow thats quite an un-assuming hen isnt it? The green hen i mean. Not much to look at but she produced a lovely hen with that cock. Perhaps the daughter leaned towards the father? But then I always find it interesting how some hens always seem to produce better than themselves..

She looks better than that, but that photo was taken just after I took her out of the freight box from QLD on a very hot day.
