does anyone use this for there birds?? good quality seed?

im trying to get onto the website, www.avigrain.com.au but cant find the website for some reason??

im trying to find places in victoria that sell it, i know of andrews stock feed which is wear my friend gets it from, but i wanted to see if i could find it somewhere cheaper or somewhere i can buy it in bigger quantities.

any help would be great

Jarryd :)

It seems to have canary seed and millets also oats. Doesnt look a lot different than an average budgie seed mix. You dont really need oats in the mix except for winter feeding. There would be better mixes than that one I would think.

I guess you did't google it. It jumps out of the page.

I think one of the clubs in Melbourne, were behind

the mix called Avigrain Blue.I do know of breeders

that have 1% oats in there mix.

hi kaz, any suggestions?

thanks jarryd,

what seeds should also be included?

I'd rather add oats at times of year or when it suits me or the birds, not have it in the mix....just my personal opinion.

Just to be different - I feed my birds hulled oats and grey stripe sunflower ad-lib all year round.

Budgie blue is not a bad mix. I won 10 bags of it at our Diploma show and it was fine. I generally don't use it as we (our club) get our seed direct from a supplier by the pallet.

Rule of thumb - 50% canary and 50% mixed millets, but lets face it - the birds eat what they want anyway!

Funny thing about canary seed Peter. I was told yonks ago that the breeders especially need it in the mix. I use Golden Cob Premium mix right now................breeders and birds in the flight leave the canary seed every time. I am contemplating changing to a mix that has less canary seed in it

My birds also get grey sunflower. I serve it in seperate dishes...doesnt last long :)

Kaz the amount of food you feed your birds.

Iam surprised they eat any seed at all,

by the photoes of all the goods & soft food,

they get.

There would have to be,something they

don't eat

Hi Kaz,

I feed the same mix in the flights as the breeding cage. The only place I have wastage is the breeding cage depending on the preference of the individual pair. If you don't want the wastage you can feed the same seeds in different feeders, if you can be bothered...

Canary is a one of the best sources of protein - about 15% vs 10% in millets. Oats is also reasonable (although variable) for protein - approx 12% but often higher. Sunflower is super - above 20%!

Not sure I would drop the canary, but it is up to you.

Cheers

I wont drop the cananry seed but will most likely change to a blend that has less. My birds get whey protein anyway so in a lot of ways they are getting a good source of proteins.
