I have just purchased what I now believe to be a lutino parakeet. I would like any information on this mutation. I have not owned a bird in about 25 years and did not realize this yellow bird was a mutation. Now I am concerned about blindness, etc. Thanks so much for the help. Ann

Welcome to the forum.

I am assuming that you purchased a lutino budgerigar. I am not sure why you are worried about blindness. I have multiple lutino's of different ages and it has never been a problem. In fact, I know that blindness is often associated with albino's, and thus lutino's fall in that category, but I have never heard to the Ino gene causing blindness in budgies. I know that more epxerienced breeders on here will be able to give you more info, but as far as I know, I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about with regard to blindness re lutinos. You may have heard an old wives tale about it. There is no truth in any rumour about blindness in any kind of ino budgies. If you mean budgerigar by "parakeet". Parakeet is a name given to a whole family of 15-20 small parrots of which the budgerigar is just one. So if yours is a budgerigar then it is meant to be called budgerigar or budgie not parakeet.
