okay here is an update on my birds

so far all look well

no one seems unhealthy however thats what i thought before my first seven birds died

 

here is the pics of my hen

as she was ill

 

bless her tiny sole

this is day one of sickness

 

few hours on

 

bumb check

 

 

poo first hour i relized she was unwell

 

poo few hours after

 

hen that night 8 hours after i saw she was sick

 

as you can see she deteriorate fast

 

here she is just a few days before pairing her and her partner who is beside her to right

so from this ...lacewing hen in fount is her lacewing hen at back is fine

to dead in 12 days

she didnt look unwell untill she had the white liquard on mouth one morning why i knew something very wrong was up

very fast and very quick to kill

 

i hope these help to show how important it is to get your birds vet creaked once dead

if looking this ill it is not just a matter of tossing bird into bin

its matter of life and death for any other birds they may have been around ....gb

still waiting for rezult so but not nice to see your beloved friends go down so hard

this hen was no where near as bad as my violet green boy i lost he was so wasted almost un berable to see

thank you anne im lucky i was not yet started my breeding plan as i could have lost birds that were part of that

im lucky in the way that i just cut my birds back and kept only the best and a few undecideds

so far it is only the undecided i lost so its as if it has been decided for me

the good point or the silver linning to the cloud so to speak

is that these are my chosen stock birds and bar a few i have already organized to be added to my flock next year

i now know that they will all be healthy and given the vets okay

all birds being added to flock will be going through a strict quarrenteen period and then a check up at the vets before relising into flock to prevent future out breaks of illness

also i have been working on a new food plan and a rutine treatment plan to keep nastys at bay

with out continues medicating but im still going through all this with my vet

before i really start breeding in full swing i also want to provide new drinkers yet again as the ones i got are okay but still not suite able toprovide proper highen required

And... yet again you post's have helped me, this time giving me a kick up the *** in regards to hygene..., It's been raining here since last Thursday and I have said to myself every day I am going to disenfect the avairy floor but I haven't....and I should know better....and I know that cocci is a threat when it's damp and not 100% clean.....so I'm off now to put my gloves and cleaning clothes on to do it NOW. :emoticon112:

my vet says that baycox is the best one for treatment of cocci

i have heard this is not so ...but she said that its the one that they stand by

i must say that it must work good as none of my birds had any cocci and i did have a out brake earlier this year if you remember where i treated the flock with baycox for cocci

you treat them a bit closser together than coccivet but only for first two treatments then its back to every 6 months

when you say your aviry gets damp anne how do you mean

what kind of floor do you have darl

 

and in awnser to what drinkers well their are verying types of drinkers avalible but ginni pig drinkers and you can get just the tip also and place your own bottles on

im going to look at them so but at moment im crook as with the worst flu ever so wont be going anywhere it hurts just to be here

i will let you know my out come of choise

 

 

oh autopsy i get back on around new years day or 4th jan i will let you know what it was

This is my set up GB, a few changes since this picture was taken though....

 

* I no longer have the breeding boxes in the avairy, they are on shelving against the side of the avairy.

 

* The whole avairy has been moved about 2 metres more under the roof of the pergola so it is all under cover, but they still get Morning and a bit of afternnon sunlight.

 

* The avairy is on the pergola tiles - in the flight I have sand - as it is all undercover it does not get wet, but after a few days of rain everywhere gets that "moist/damp" feeling.....I hope that makes sense?

i use small water bottles with a little whole in the lid and turned upside down in my aviary...i change the water in them every couple of days and they work fine, no need to buy drinkers from pet shop.

i certainly will darland am glad your boys are fine i miss them both sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much can i see pics please please please i did think they would be fine but wanted to let you know as so you could treat incase i would hate for your flock to come sick on account of me im just so glad your a responsible owner and did the quarantine(are doing ) the spangle is going to be a fantastic bird for pet breeding and hes so missed as is spudnick my lacewing boy but you can use them both and mabe one day i will get some young from you for my pet line specially from spudnick so do you think you could show my photo of these drinkers you have made darl also do they drip is a catcher needed the quicker i can organize something the better i almost went to pet shop today

.my vet said damp is okay if it drys with in few hours of morning mate its constant dampalso if your cleaning sand out then the poo would be taken with this is that correctas long as theirs no puddles happening or it stays damp constently ive been ashured its okay still cocci vet on a really humid month probbly would not go astray and keep down any risks and i am getting tested for the bird thing on thursday comming

i will take some photos for you tomorrow or on thursday...still a bit busy with my relatives here for christmas.

 

the water bottles do a great job in the aviary and usually don't leak, think it depends on how big you drill the whole in the lid...i haven't tried them out in smaller cages but maybe you can use smaller bottles in the breeding cages. the only problem is that you have to attach them inside the cage and not from outside as the rabbit/guinea pig drinkers. think most rabbit ones have a little ball in the spout and i am not too sure whether the birds can work it out how to use them.

my birds got used to their water bottles very quickly.

 

the two boys are soo cute and very active and very noisy ;-) - lots of singing going on. i call the green one popeye and the lacewing sherbert. i have a nice cinnamon opaline yellowfaced pet type hen (think she is a sky blue violet...she had a lovely light lavender color when she was a baby and now she looks greenish) in my aviary....she might be the right girl friend for the lacewing. might let them breed in late summer/autumn. and for the spangle i've got a creamino or albino hen.

i think he really does deserve a true show type hen for future but for now you would get some pretty yf lacewings and some nice cinnamons

i will keep you one my show breed hens for him a grey as im sure we will see eachother again someday

and id really like to see him through his potential worth for you

hes only young and very timmid with the big show hens so mabe a pet hen is just what he needs to get started

id love a yf lacewing pet type one day myself if any spare ever

i used wire+spring from a guinea pig drinker to attach it, but will replace it coz just saw that it is a little rusty. might replace it with cable ties or bend wire.

regards to the drinker how fast does it drip out like does it become empty fast do you have a catch tray

...no, doesn't need a catch tray. it doesn't drip out....water only comes out while they are drinking (when they touch the little whole with their beaks/tongues).....works fine.

great drinker. Aside from the rust on the spring which you noticed...the budgies can get claws trapped in the gaps of springs.

I would suggest it is done with a drill and drillbit of a certain size.........................so lealotta what size is the hole ??
