no mate i have lost no one

since the two went down hard last month

 

im just a bit concerned i guess

and worried about a few birds that i really don't want to lose

its not easy getting good stock and i think i have been very fortunate that i have been given the opportunity to gather a number of good birds from various breeders whom i respect i just dont want to risk my birds dieing as something was over looked

i know anyone else would be trying thier all to find out whats going on

as for not wanting to medicate

of course i dont want to if its not necessary but really

i dont know whats necessary anymore at all

its all a bit over whelming for me

although im coping im just at a loss seeing my normally fantastic looking vibrant birds look a tad under weather

Well good news you haven't lost any.

 

And as for not knowing what to do, yeah that is totally understandable as you are on that hair-raising fast learning curve that we all go through when we are starting our stud : New birds from different aviaries PLUS limited experience with diagnosis and treatment It can be a nightmare. But chin up! Look for the silver lining and you will see that as disconcerting and horrible that is right now you are finding out lots and lots and what you figure out now will stand you in good stead for the future.

as you said i do think its alot to do with my stud comming together but really im not going to know for sure

i did expect a rough patch but i did also expect the vet to be-able to diagnose a problem for me to work with

how many others when first getting their stud together when through this may i please ask and can i ask for each persons personal experiance with the anitial starting the stud prosses

When i came back from Perth, I was very hesitant about introducing bird.

 

I had lost one before I left perth, one died when i got back, and one was showing signs of illness.

 

I treated them all with doxy for about a month, then canker treatment for 10 days.

 

After about 40 days i suppose, i put the goods one in with my flock. There was one hen who was still sick, and so she remained isolated. She was constantly being sick, regurgitating her food, cough and it was flying everywhere, plus the pooey bum, thin.

 

I took her to the vet, and she was not showing any signs of canker, no signs of any illness actually. They thought it might be metal poisoning, but that proved inconclusive.

 

Now, she was a very good bird, one I purchased from a good breeder over there, but she had obviously caught something off the birds that ended up dying. After about 7 weeks, with no determined illness, but all the signs, she was euthanased. The autopsy was carried out, and strangely enough, the results showed no major abnormalities. It was hard to determine what was wrong with her, but it appeared she would never recover, and thus why she was euthanased.

 

Sometimes, it appears there are things that may occur with our birds, infections, that we are not aware of what they are or what causes them. I believe this was one of those cases. Remember when they test, they look for elements they know. They cannot test for something they do not know about.

 

I do understand, to a degree what you are going thru and I hope, for your sake and the birds sake, that it all works out in the end.

You responded to me with my situation with my bird recently, which I appreciated very much, so I just wanted to let you know that although I can offer you nothing in the way of advice, I sympathize with you over this and over your frustration with treatment/diagnosis etc. Hope you get to the bottom of this and without anymore birds lost.

i think i just got to ride it through

im just not that good at riding and fall easy so

im worryed about one bird inperticula i love him so much

hes grown on me

i might bring him in for a while i think

hes snezzing and brown stain and wezz im scared for him

BUT you said you didn't want to treat them any more and it was going to be survival of the fittest .... Have you lost any birds between Friday and today to make you consider medication as an option? :sadsorry:

well i talked to vet after my email i got a better responce and im happy to say i feel more listened too

 

vet said to treat birds that look like they have respetory cold like simptoms with sulfa avs

how ever i only have sulfa sd ...so.,mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

so my next step was to just remove the few who look abit in need of more tender care in house

firstly i must say although looking underweather the cock i was worryed about is quiet healthy weaight wize so thats great news

the house is warm but not hot and away from anycold or drafts so i will keep with the pro bo intill i can decide if birds are actuially mildly under weather due to all the resent treatments or from a actual cold or worse

looks like most birds have lost their brown staining bar one or two to three of them

 

im totally going to over viw my plan of houseing and my area of breeding needs to be looked at as its just a mess about now as in not really officiant

 

but so far no more deaths

and more chirping

 

oh all bums back to normal

I'll bet you are feeling more positive after that mate

well im not as worryed now

and do tend to think im a tad of a stress head about their health around now

if only the weather would regulate its self al;l would be fine

im going to just have a break from breeding for a while and consentrate on getting birds back to A one

sorry guys i did not see that you were asking till now

my birds are seeming to be okay

 

i am going to send some poo to splat to see what she may find but this is not really a diagnoses method

its more so splat can have other avian birds to view other than her own

how ever if she does find something i will ask her to send a e mail with the poo label to me and i will smartly take the birds in question to vet to be tested again

 

birds seem okay few still bobing tails however im wondering if im just over seeing this activity normally :hmm:

all but one birds brown staining above cere has gone and no longer am i hearing constant sneezing but i do hear one now and again

 

blinds have been down untill this after noon but again down for the night breeze

 

all my chicks are doing well also

but some have been plucked due to over crowded nests i believe

but i have worked it out to 5 chicks per nest between 6 pairs removing all largest to one nest smallest to last

this is the first time i have used this method but felt it was necessary i will be swapping some chicks as the feather around again to even out the time they fledged a bit better

its only for this once ren and im bowned to get fm chicks this time round as birds were all run down even though i didnt know it

and as i had it last clutches remember

as i know it you need to rest birds for 3 months

i am doing this now for till july actually

 

i wont be mixing clutches next time as i will be going back to my way of doing things not what was sugested
