Posted December 21, 200915 yr I was given a big bag of puffed millet and I was wondering if its okay to feed to budgies? I know you can feed them millet sprays - my budiges adore them, but I wasn't sure if puffed millet was appropriate for them? I couldn't find any info for it and its safety to feed budgies. Thanks
December 21, 200915 yr Puffed Millet is found in health stores. It is white millet which has been treated to expand (puff). It is just like rice is treated to give rice bubbles. Edited December 21, 200915 yr by RIPbudgies

So, does this interfere with the nutritional value ? Quite honestly I couldn't tell you Kaz. I would guess it would have the same effect as it does when they do the Rice. I forgot to mention popcorn is similar in that heat is applied and the grain pops. I wouldn't say it was completely devoid of all nutrition. I personally can't really find a reason to use it.
December 21, 200915 yr Author Thank you for your feedback, I greatly appreciate it. KAZ - it says on the pack that its a wholegrain that is flash-steamed to lock in the nutritional goodness without any additives. RIPBudgies is right that its like rice and popcorn. I'll give it a miss for the budgies - don't want to do them any damage. Maybe someone else can use it as its not something I'd eat
