Dark Factor Genetics

Yes, if it's a type 1 Dk Grn/Bl (ie dk factor linked to green) then you will get Olives but few Mauves. Consequently if it's a type 2 DkGrn/Bl (ie dark factor linked to blue) then you will get Mauves but very few Olives. As CB9 says, just put them together and see what happens as you don't know what type you have yet.

The few Olives I've seen at auction have brought a decent price even if not outstanding in quality so there is a reasonable demand for them due to their usefulness in breeding varieties enhanced by the dark factor. Of course it's easier to breed double dark factor if you already have some.

Thank You Daryl ^_^

okay ren here are a few matings for you darl not sure if anyone has put these up for you but

im sure you know most these but if you want olives this it how to get their with out stuffing around breeding pairs trying to find pairings to produce you some its simple as written below

mauve x olive green gives 100 percent olives /blue

then theirs all these you could breed then breed together to achive olives i hilighted ones usful to quickest way their

sky blue x light green = 100 per cent light green / blue

sky blue x dark green = 50 percent dark green/ blue

50 percent light green / blue

sky blue x olive green = 100 percent dark green split blue

sky blue x sky blue = 100 percent sky blue

their are so many more i could add but these bettter ones

sky blue x cobalt = 50 percent sky blue

50 percent cobalt

sky blue x mauve = 100 percent cobalt

cobalt x olive green = 50 perecent dark green /blue

50 percent olive green /blue

mauve x light green = 100 percent dark green / blue

mauve x dark green = 50 percent dark green / blue

50 percent olive green / blue

Thank for having a go sweets :)

don't have any Olives .... and only a few Dark Greens - so next year I'll be doing a few Cobalt x Dark Green pairings and with any luck one of those Dark Greens will be a DF1 and an Olive will pop out!!!!

GOsh I found this most fascinating to read! Of course all info on here is valuable, but I was rather intrigued by this. Would love to know how your outcome with this Renee :)

Thats were the problem starts,

is to find an olive to breed with,

that is worth the trouble,to breed with.

All the budgie auction I have been to

I have only seen a couple,so best of luck

with your search for one.

well i know you must have a mauve and

mauve and dark green / yellow which you also have are going to give you

dark green / white

and dark green / yellow

and olive /white and olive split yellow

and mauve and dark yellow gives dark green /white and olive /white

why guess when if you look at what is writting it takes you straight to what your needing to breed olives even if you dont have a olive or mauve you only need breed some dark greens / blue then them to each other its not as tecnical as blue 1 and 2 really i know but then i have back groung history of my birds to fall back on so... mabe thats why its not difficult

i dont know but olives a basic colour to breed just hard to get a nice even deep one

I had three good olives that did well on the show bench, and some of which flew the coop the day my aviary door came open. I dont think I have any left :)
