Mum Going For Next Round

Featured Replies

I have 2 clutches with chicks hatching at the moment, and 1 clutch with chicks at 6 weeks.

Th clutch with the chicks a 6 weeks mum has gone for a second round with 3 chicks still in the nestbox.

I removed the chicks to the floor of the cage on Saturday as they are all feathered and eating seed/millet/egg biscuit, mum has 2 eggs in there and I really didn't want her to go a second round as it will be too hot, but I don't have the heart to remove them.... :D

My question is for the 2 clutches I have where the chicks are hatching, can I remove the nestbox once the chicks are feathered so this doesn't happen with them?

This is the second time it has happened to me...is this the "norm" when it comes to breeding?

Thanks in advance.. :laughter:

Yes, once the chicks are feathered you can remove the nestbox and put them on the floor of the breeder cage OR put them on the floor of the breeder cage AND remove the mother out of cage and out of earshot of the father and he will complete the raising process.
