Posted November 28, 200915 yr I thought it might be fun to have a topic to learn a little more about each other. We all have a common love of budgies and birds in general, but what do we do for a job... study, work in an office, stay at home parent??? Share a little about yourself if you like. :hmm: I'll go first. I work full time as a Book Binder. We mainly focus on Wedding albums, and create them from scratch for Professional Photographers, but we do do some old style book binding, so newspapers, thesis' and restorations etc... I have been in this Career for 3 1/2 years and really enjoy the challenges it brings on a day to day basis. I've always been creative and used to love making things at home, and when I got this job I couldn't believe I could get paid to make stuff  It's pretty cool. Below are some pictures of the type of stuff we make as it's really hard to explain it. Your turn... Edited November 28, 200915 yr by maesie
November 28, 200915 yr I am a High School Teacher. I teach Years 7-12, that is ages 11-18. My main area of teaching is Information Technology. Everything from Web Page Design, Video editing, Flash, Hardware and Software, Communications and Databases, to name a few topics. I am also the Year 7 Coordinator at the Catholic Boys College where I teach. This means I am in charge of 150 boys aged somewhere between 11-13. This means their welfare is my main concern. I deal with everything from bullying to adolescent issues such as puberty and maturity, special learning needs such as dyslexia, anxiety or ADHD, to behaviour or emotional issues, to gifted and talented students. As a teacher, and a year coordinator, you tend to need to be a bit of a jack of all trades. Patience is a key component in my life. With year 7, I spend a lot of time interacting with parents. Now, as for some of you who are thinking that teachers only work 9-3, and this thread is about 9-5 work, let me state I work from about 7:30-5 at school everyday, and then I am usually doing other work through the night. As for holidays, the beginning of January is probably the only time when you are not doing preparation or marking. Even as I type this, it is as I am taking a break from reading 150 student reports. I have to write a comment on each one. Teaching is not a job for everybody, but it is one I love. If you love holidays, then teaching is not the job for you. If you love holidays, try winning the lottery. The kids will kill you in week 1 if you are hanging out only for the holidays.

December 8, 200915 yr I do leadlight and stained glass windows. I design them and make them from lots of pieces of coloured glass that I cut out, assemble and make with lead and solder. I have been doing that for around 26 years. Today I made two windows for a client and our Liv off this forum came with me to help me fit them, as she is here visiting.

I learned something from your website: my front door is leadlight! here it is "> We learned the hard way that it was repairable! (One summer our son hit a golfball into it. Turns out, each of those glass shapes is a separate piece, and he only broke one of them! Thank goodness.)

December 9, 200915 yr Well before l went on permanent disability. l use to work at an electronics factory. I would solder wires onto parts and sometimes l would build wire harnesses. I would also inspect and test the end products. To give you an idea of the products we would make. Here is a link to the company that l worked for http://www.parker.com/portal/site/PARKER Since l have been off work I like to work on my art. l do mostly wildlife drawings and l use pencil or coloured pencils. I'm starting to also try sketching with markers. What l would like to do is more digital artwork. I also enjoy photography. Edited December 9, 200915 yr by birdluv
March 1, 201015 yr I began in hospitality, then went into business management, next youth work. Now together with my wife I own/operate a national training company. We provide workplace training in business, civil construction and water industry. For the past 10 years I've also been an ordained minister of religion[pentecostal] So I'm kept very busy, but I get to travel a lot, this year I'll spend 30-40% of my time travelling, it's tough but someone has to do it.

March 2, 201015 yr I help run a Medium to Large Electrical Contracting Business employing 20 to 40 electricians depending on work.. My main part is Estimatiing and Project Managment of jobs from $100,000 to $2 million. Due to the down turn in the International Finacial Market and the slow down in the Austrailan building industry, it has meant that I have to work longer and do more Tenders to aquire work for my men.. This has mean less time for the birds. But that is now changing with me refocusing more on them. This is where I work.
March 2, 201015 yr I am a mum of 4 beautiful children of which i homeschool and soon to be mum of a foster child which will make 5 beautiful children. I also manage a CAP (Christians Against Poverty) centre in Picton NSW doing debt counselling and co-ordinate the running of Money management (or budgeting)courses FREE of charge to our local community. I also Manage Wollondilly Care which is the name of the ministry attached to our church C3 Wollondilly which looks after peoples needs in our Community that are finding it tough by helping pay water, electricity & Phone bills, giving them emergency food parcels, supplying councelling FREE of charge, teaching budgeting skills and as of this year educating young single mum's & dad's to shop & cook healthy meals on a budget. I also co-ordinate with some other local services the Community Christmas Party where we give families a good Christmas dinner and every child recieves a present that has been donated by members of the public. A very rewarding job indeed and it keeps me out of trouble. My budgies are my down time, if i feel a bit stressed i just hang around and watch them for about 10 mins and i feel really relaxed, even though they are busy little bees they are also quite tranquil.
March 2, 201015 yr I am a sales representive in the animal health industry. I sell primarily production animal products dealing with farmers, vets, wholesalers and anyone in between. I've been looking after WA for my company for the past 16 years. We deal with dairy cattle, beef cattle, pigs, poultry and sheep - selling antibiotics, rumen modifiers, external paraciticides, livestock housing insect treatments and a few others. I give presentations, training sessions, attend trade displays, help to run registration and commercial trials, produce programs for pest and disease control and occasionally attend and diagnose complaints about product efficacy. I am away from home a substantial amount of time (for example my husband will be baching for 3 weeks this month!) and struggle to fit my hobbies and my family (sadly) into my lifestyle - hence no children for us.......... We see a lot of this sort of thing.
