Posted November 27, 200915 yr Hi all. Interesting thing: two of out females have decided to move into a nesting box with each other. I don't think either of them have partners but their laying eggs anyway and there are about ten in there, with two budgies! Has anyone else ever had hens sharing a nesting box, I was under the impression that they are always very violent towards other hens while nesting, but apparently I was wrong.

Hi I did read somewhere on bbc about this. It does happen, but if your Colony breeding it's hard to say if either hen has mated, or just decided to lay because nestbox's were available. If they are quite happy with the arrangement, you could candle eggs to see if any are fertile. Also keep an eye out for possessive Cock bird/s BUT keep a close eye out for trouble as it could happen at any time. Caged pairs are the way to go if possible. It will save a lot of heartache in the long run. but keep posting to see how you go.
November 28, 200915 yr I've heard of this a few times and there are generally no problems until eggs start hatching. The results have all been bloody massacres in every case if i recall? Not 100% sure though.
