Posted November 24, 200915 yr Reader/lurker first time poster - first time breeder! Have a normal green cock and a lutino hen. 5 chicks, they are starting to feather up as they pass the 2 week old mark. I understand that should the cock not be split to anything, the baby cocks might be split to lutino and the hens will all be normal greens. However judging by the colours of the chicks so far, the cock appears to be split to blue. So in theory what are outcomes? Normal Green Hens and Noraml Blue Hens - niether split. I imagine the baby cocks could be normal, split for blue and/or split for lutino?
November 24, 200915 yr For you to be getting blue chicks your normal green cock and your lutino hen would both have to be split for blue. Hens Normal Blue Normal Green/Blue Cocks Normal/Lutino/Blue
November 24, 200915 yr incase you are not sure the / mean split for. also you can get normal blue cock as well still split for ino can we get pictures?
November 24, 200915 yr Author 3 of the chicks have photos over in the breeding help forum. Not so convinced they will be blue (bit early for me to tell) if both parents have to be split for it. Possible...but probable?
November 24, 200915 yr Normal Green paired to a Lutino hen will give you 100% Normal Greens Cocks will be split Lutino and all hens will be Normal. No Blues can be produced unless both parents carry the Blue gene. If I am looking at the right pics. then your hen is also a Pied as your eldest chick is a Pied. I see no blue in the chicks. I think what you are seeing are the bluish coloured feathers on the rump and underneath the area near the tail. This is immature feather and they always show blue at this stage. When the bird moults these feathers will take on a stronger green appearance.
November 25, 200915 yr Author Dominant or recessive - dominant I presume. Have a young recessive pied hen elsewhere Anyway I put up pics of the parents later.
November 25, 200915 yr i only see one topic by you in that section so yes your Hen is hiding the dominant pied gene and it is appearing in the chicks. I also don't see any sign of blue.
