November 23, 200915 yr Eggs take 18-21 days from time of incubation ( consistently keeping them warm ). Over a month is too long assuming you have counted correctly. Do the eggs look white or pinkish ? Do you have a male with your female ? If you arent a breeder why is there a nestbox ? Are you colony breeding or cage breeding one pair only ? Cracked eggs must be removed. Can you give more information please ? :celebrate: Here is the difference between a fertile egg and a non fertile egg fertile egg on the left non fertile on the right. Thank you for the info and the pics.I inherited the birds and the cage as is. It came with the box inside the cage.I dont know what colony breeding is. I will check out the color of the eggs.None of the birds that i have (3) have the distinct blue beaks that i have read about. Edited November 24, 200915 yr by KAZ
November 24, 200915 yr Hi Keggy! Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to learn all kinds of stuff about keeping and raising budgies! If you go to the faq's section, you can find lots of articles that will help you learn about colony vs closed breeding, as well as other things about budgies that you might not have even thought of asking about! There are also articles on how to tell if your birds are male or female. Your best bet is to take the nest box away from them until you decide whether breeding budgies is right for you. And then learn a lot from this forum before you start again. If you have a hen who has been spending a month non-stop in the nest box, she probably needs a break so she can get some excercise. Well, that's my two cents. Wander around the forum, read a lot, ask questions, and make friends. I have been doing that for about a year, and I have learned a ton!
November 25, 200915 yr Hi and welcome. I'd get rid of the breeding box and eggs. They won't hatch now if they have been there that long. If you want to breed in the future, I'd read up on it and go from there, but for now... I'd remove it and let them be. The hen (female) may lay an egg or two off the perch, but without a nest box, she should stop. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
