Over-weight Budgie?

Featured Replies

I have noticed that my female budgie is plumper than usual. Not fluffed up, just fatter and has a rounder chest. I think that this is because she feeds herself as well as my male budgie feeding her but I'm not sure.

How much exercise does she get?

Does she sit in small cage, or fly around in a big cage or aviary?

Your thinking is sound though. I have a hen who was always fed by her partner. She was veyr plump as she never had to move (honestly I think she is scared of heights, but that is another issue).

Anyway, she never had to move, her partner fed her in the aviary. When she was breeding, she lost a lot of weight and she is back to a healthy normal weight now. It will be interesting to see what happens in regard to her weight over the next 12 months or so.

Have you a photo? A noticeably large crop or breast area, can indicate an issue with crop infection or air sac issues.

She lives in a very large cage outside with her partner and has the chance to get loads of excercise, but only really flies around when she has had enough of her mate feeding her. Before I got Skye ( my beautiful male) she was pretty much normal size.

I don't think it is over sized, no.
