Posted November 17, 200915 yr Hey Greg and I have been putting shade on top of the aviary it's far from finished as I need to buy some more steel feet for the middle but it is working, Greg closed the front and right side to stop the afternoon sun getting on to the roof and the left side and back is open for the breeze to circulate, I am trying to talk him into having the front open like a veranda because there is enough shademexh to come out nearly 3 foot at the front and that would stop the sun from hitting the roof but Greg reckons it would be ugly. SO far he won't go for it but thta's okay at least I have this now. Here are a couple of pics The bit hanging over on this picture is to join onto the pine poles that are going in soon and greg is growing a grapevine there and that will help with some shade too.
November 17, 200915 yr Fantastic Splat! Yes it really DOES make a difference and is well worth the effort.
November 17, 200915 yr that's similar to what im in mids of finishing only im haveing the over hang to use as a verander type look and atatching blind for winter that way if i want to take the swinging blinds off i can for air flow but attach them again in winter wear they will be double protected good job splat birds will benefit heaps
November 17, 200915 yr Wonderful improvement....the birds will really feel the difference I am sure. Having that gap and the airflow helps keep it all cool too. We will have to do that over the new flights too. I like you idea of taking it out in front too like an awning. Hope Greg thinks its a good plan as well and lets you do it. The stirrup posts are a good idea mate
November 17, 200915 yr Author Yes Kaz I had to come up with an idea thta was ugly, the the steel surports are attached to the cement sheeting and great bid heavy redgum slats which sit on top of the roof so I really don't think it will ever blow away, didn't connect it to the tin roof because it might of loosened the tin. But it seems to be working because the birds haven't sat on the floor since we put it up well not yet anyway even on a real hot day some of the birds have been still perching Slowly trying to talk Greg onto the front extesion part but it's a slow progress

Locate it somewhere the birds wont chew at it.
