Need Some Advice For Lina

Hi everyone,

I am a new joiner of this great site. Unfortunately, I didn't know about this site until a few months ago but I am very glad that I bumped into it. Without this site, I would've had a difficult time in bringing my new feather grandbabies into our family. I am happy to write that they are strong and healthy and now 4 months old. We call Lilo and Stitch (the parents) our feather children, so this is why I am a feather grandmother to Leroy and Nani and other baby girl is with her new parents (sex are still not completely determined, just a guess). :D

I am writing today with a concern for my parents budgie Lina. She is a yellow albino and over a year old. She lives with her room mate Pico that is 2 years old. It was never witnessed if they mated but she laid her first egg a week ago. The egg is infertile and as I read that after a couple of days she will lay her next clutch, as my Lilo did. My mother explained that she only stayed in her box for a day. After the second day of laying her egg, she looked droopy and did not eat, only drank water. She was definately not herself. My mother lives 3 hours north from me and lives in the country so I am not able to see Lina. I was worried that she was experiencing egg binding so I looked up the site and found some ways to help her out. My mother placed her vent in warm water on the third day which she believes that helped as she is eating and back to herself again. Although, she still has not layed another egg and refuses to go back into her box. What could have happened? Should I still be worried?

Anyones help would greatly be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Yuli

and Lina :)

Hi, thanks for writing and your best wishes. I haven't been on the site for awhile. I am hanging around my 2 sick kids that just can't get rid of their dry cough. I have called my mother daily to find out how Lina is doing. She said she is looking good. Yet I am still worried about her. She layed another egg about a week ago and threw it out her nest. Should I have my parents remove the box? I just don't think Lina wants to be a parent.

Troubled,

Yuli

Remove the nestbox...timing is all wrong for breeding right now for this bird.

Box is gone! Lina and Pico will only be family pets from now on. With the scare of almost losing Lina, we would rather not tempt to breed them anymore.

Many thanks for your help,

Yuli :flowers:

im sorryu about the scare with lina you encountered. had to learn the hard way im afraid :P well im sure you will give them lots of love and they will be great just as family pets once more xx

Pico and Lina are definately spoiled, that's for sure. My parents give them lots of love. :P

As for my feather grandchildren...well, lets just say that they are living in royalty with their parents. lol

It was very stressful when my Lilo had her little chicks. I woke up every night to see how they were doing...as if I had to wake up and feed them like they were my very own. But Lilo was a great mother. I mean at first she was unsure and afraid, so I had to hand feed the first chick myself until she got the hang of it...which didn't take too long. I couldn't believe how small they were and so incredibly helpless. And her Stitch was always looking out for her and his chicks. It was wonderful to see them grow and become gorgeous healthy birds.

I'm not sure if I would like to breed them again when the time is right, of course. My 4 birds do make quite a racket at times...haha...but they are our family!

Yuli :D
