What's His Color?

Featured Replies

Hector is coming into his adult plumes. I snapped a few shots of him tonight. he hasn't lost all of his blue yet so you can compare the green and blue.

I can't tell if he's violet or just dark, or how many dark factors he has(cobalt or muave)

so here's my boy

I agree with Kaz YF Dom pied but I'd have a guess that he my have come from a Australian YF if he was born blue and now changing to green thats what Aus YF do but could be wrong

Australian yellow face that if they are true are golden in the face and have suffusion in the body but to get a blue aus yf you have to have two green aus yf and you my get a blue aus yf but they do have to be true aus yf but are a very tricky bird to breed I hope this helps to go in depth just gets confusing

Your bird is single factor Goldenface (also know as Australian YF) Australian Dominant Pied in either Cobalt or Sky Blue.

The Goldenface face is another form of yellowfaced blue. There are three. Yellowface Mutant 1; Yellowface Mutant 2 and Goldenface. They form with the Green and Blue series birds what is termed multiple alleles. Which is to say they are variations of one gene.

The Goldenface is no harder or trickier to breed than other other variety. What is confusing people is the inability to recognise the various mutations in both the single and double factor form. Also the amount of misleading rubbish written over the years that just won't go away.
