HI guys!

I currently have in 3 pairs. I have a YF Pied Cinnamon in with a sky blue cock, a clearflight to a olive cinnamon and a violet tcb to normal violet.

 

The first pair is an exhibition pair. YF Pied Cinnamon hen to WF Sky Blue with a violet bloom cock. They are doing fine, hen has bred before only 6 months previous and the cock is showing interest in nest (don't think he's bred). Been in for 3 days

 

2nd pair is a YF Green Clearflight Cock to a Olive Cinnamon Hen.They have been in for a week or more, still no eggs or interest in box. No flirting going on between them like in the aviary, hen in chocolate condition as I like to say. Both no experience...

 

3rd pair is WF Violet/Sky Blue tcb hen to WF normal violet. The cock has experience of one clutch, but it was with another hen. The tcb hen is not focused and is incredibly intent on shredding the whole newspaper on the bottom? Suggestions? They have been in since 5 days ago.

 

 

I really want to get them breeding. The 2nd and 3rd pair. The cages they are in is good size, large box, food and water all the time and veggies ever other day. Newspaper on the bottom, pine shavings in box.

Well I recommend you do a search for Budgies in breeding condition and read up and see if your birds are really ready to breed.

 

Also it would be helpful if you posted some photos of the birds in question so other members can have a look and let you know what they think of your birds and breeding cabinet set up. :emoticon112:

I don't mean to be rude, But I know what a budgie in condition looks like. Both hens have the chocolate cere and are in healthy condition. They have been on a breeder's diet the last month before going into aviary. I can get some pictures up in about 30 mins.

You didn't mention that and there are no photos so there's no way of knowing.

Sorry I got a bit snappy... I just hate it when some people think I am to young to breed and am stupid about birds and stuff. Not saying you did, I am not very resilient :emoticon112:. Photo's uploading now

Chocolate cere is considered PAST breeding condition. Lighter nut brown is considered the right time to breed. By the time it goes dark to chocolate brown its just past breeding condition and the brown then peels away to reveal the whitish blue underneath.

Also time of year ....its when we are soon to get the really hot weather if not already. Your birds know the timing and have missed the boat so to speak. A few weeks earlier would have been right.

Don't beat yourself up about it! :emoticon112: In the scheme of things it is a minor mistake and on the bright side, this is a mistake you are NEVER going to make again!

 

YES! If you have observed another hen and cock bird that are in breeding condition, behaving accordingly, and are old enough by all means go ahead.

 

The only thing I will ask you is, is your breeding area set up for warmer weather?

No biggie squeak crumble.....a lot of info out there talks about chocolate coloured ceres but its wrong info.

The thing is....we are coming into hot weather when most breeders shut down for the summer and start again around March or April. You would need a really good cool breeding room to be breeding from now on.

I keep my cages outside/inside. It is an outdoor room in a way, closed of on 3 sides. They are under a big shdey vine, really flowery and shady. The room has ventilation and is quite cool, but not cold.

Nestboxes get hot in summer. You have up to two weeks to get eggs, another 2 weeks for laying of a clutch, another 3 weeks for eggs to hatch and then another 4-5 weeks till chicks fledge.

If they have not started laying eggs by 2 weeks after the next full moon, they might not want to breed until it cools down in February or the next rains. Birds have christmas holidays it seems.

 

They can breed over December and January if the conditions are kept cool.

i personally think breeding in the summer is asking for trouble

birds need to rest in this time or become stressed and can suddenly die in box or such

its going to be a hot summer and personal side i believe that it is just cruel to expect birds to raise young in summer unless you have a proper regulated system

plenty of time to be around them and all

hens tend to atack cocks more so in the summer months as they get pissed easy think about it how much do you like to do in summer also

biggest point here

 

birds dont eat much in heat their for chicks get fed less and can be ********* in growth or lack nutrition

 

so really whats a few more months

 

its healthy birds ready to breed and better sucsess

I wanted to know your guys opinions on the hens and cocks I have decided on. I will have the YF Cinnamon in with the Sky Blue, and I am taking both of the other pairs out. I am putting in one other pair and leaving the third box free.

Well in the absence of a better close up photo of your first hen I'll take a punt and say No, I'm afraid she looks like she is going out of condition as I can see some whitening about the cere.

 

The next hen should be flying around in your aviary, she is totally out of condition as her cere is almost grey.

 

Maybe wait till the hot weather is over and then take another look at your birds with an eye for breeding?

that second hen could you get another picture fount on sweetie as the bird seems to have a hormonal imbalance if you ask me or a liver prob i don't think she is even breeder -ble

im not sue its scaly face kaz but a fount picture will for sure show that also

i think this bird is nu well internally but only a picture of face on i will be able to give my full opinion

if she is

you would not of been able to know or tell unless you been experienced for some while so not your fault

the top bird a picture same would benefit
