Posted November 12, 200915 yr My budgie seems to be having a poop problem! The poo seems be be getting stuck to her tail. Can anyone tell me what causes this? Can I wash it off with warm water or does it require a vet visit? I have 5 other birds in the cage with her who don't show any of these symptoms. Hoping someone can shed some light on what this is. thanks Nic
November 12, 200915 yr Hi Nic and any unusual pooping activity means the bird isnt well and it must be treated as a serious issue. First thing to do is remove the bird to another cage with clean water and seed, and a warm lamp next to the cage. Put white paper under the perch and try and see what kind of poops its doing exactly. Look here http://www.birds-online.de/gesundheit/gesa...katorkot_en.htm if at all unusual you may need to see a bird vet. If the unusual droppings also coincide with weight loss ( feel for sharp keelbone ) then the need to see a vet will be more urgent.
November 12, 200915 yr Author Thanks for your reply Kaz. I caught the bird and on closer inspection I think she may have diarrhea (spelling?). I'm making an appointment with our avian vet tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Nic
November 13, 200915 yr Author We are back from the vet... She (Snowy) is to stay in isolation until at least Monday. He took some poo samples and will know the results of those later this afternoon. The vet gave Snowy a dose of worm medicine and some antibiotics. Depending on the results of the samples he took, we will probably be going back over the next 2 days for more antibiotics. Thanks for the replies Nic
