Posted April 24, 200520 yr Do give it to them when you first put your pair of budgies in the breeding cage or do you put it in once the eggs have hatched?
April 24, 200520 yr I'm pretty sure you give it to them just before the first egg is due to hatch. It's really good for them though so i give it to all my birds all the time.
April 24, 200520 yr Never use it. Now I am sure others will disagree or name specific circumstances where it might help but as a generality if they are on a healthy diet then they don't need it. Just something the pet store likes to sell you. You don't find any in the wild - just regular food - or not if things are tough. As we give them a regular diet (well I hope you do) then they should be fine, healthy and not need anything else.
April 24, 200520 yr But the egg food helps the hen to produce crop milk. If the hen doesn't produce fine enough crop milk it can cause health problems with the chicks.
April 24, 200520 yr I was just looking at some the last time I was in the pet shop. The lable said to give it to them when they are laying eggs. I didn't get it because I had no idea mine were going to finally lay eggs but next time I go (monday maybe) I'm going to pick some up.
