Hi all. i have recently set up 2 breeding cages and added my pairs about 2 weeks ago. i have mounted the nesting boxes externally etc and there is plenty of room (cages are aprox 800x400). I was wondering how long it will be before eggs arrive?

If your pairs were in prime breeding condition then I'd say you would have got your first eggs by now .... but sometimes the hen isn't quite ready so it takes longer. Usually if the cock birds aren't quite ready you get clear eggs - but as you don't seem to have eggs at all, I'd say the hens aren't ready. :WobbleSign:

 

Please post photos of your pairs.

Are the hens going into their breeding boxes? Are you seeing signs of the pairs flirting etc... I see you mention the nest boxes are fitted exturnally... excellent... are they up high and do you have perches so they can fly back and forth? A photo of your cages could help too.

Yeah the hens are going in and out of the nests regulary, everytime i go in there the hens are in there. They are talking to each other, kissing etc. they are up high in the cage, just above the perches. will take some photos and upload them. do i need that photo book thing to uplaod them?

You didn't really read up about it on the pinned topics, did you?

 

Here's a step-by-step guide that La_Coka_Nostra posted under the topic Help. Support, etc.

 

I will do it in steps for you.

THE CAMERA MUST BE ON AND STAY CONNECTED FOR THE FIRST 4 STEPS!

 

1) Connect your camera to the computer using the USB cable or camera dock

2)Turn the camera on

3)Wait for windows to find your camera, A window will pop up asking what you want to do select "browse photos"

4) Choose the photos you want to put on photobucket and save them to your desktop or selected folder

5) Once they are saved to your desktop go to photobucket.com, Sign in and upload them

6)Once uploaded they will show up in your album, If you are wanting to post the pictures on the forum than copy the tag in full which is under the photo.

7)Paste the tag in to your forum message and bob is your mothers brother.

Firstly, how many pairs do you have in the aviary? It's important to have more nest boxes than pairs... many more. As to your breeding cages. First thing I'd do would be to get rid of the perches you have, and put in some shorter ones going from front to back, as opposed to accross your cage. I'd put one up high near the nest box perch, so they can get into it, and the other I would have down lower at the other end of the cage. This will encourage them to follow each other around a bit and hopefully make some change to the egg situation. Ummm... where are they located? Are they getting enough light and not being disturbed too much??? Just trying to think out loud...

Thanks for that. will change the perches as soon as i can. they are in my garage but there is a sun light and i leave a light on, and open the screen door when i get home from work. i only use my car once a week as i have a work van so they hardly get disturbed.

 

Here is me complaining about no eggs last night and ill be buggered the clearwings laid their first egg today!! Relief!

 

I only have a 1 paired up pair in the avairy, they are on eggs now but im thinking of taking those boxes out and just using more breeding cages.
