Posted October 26, 200915 yr Hi all, I am thinking about building a new birdroom and aviary and after reading an article by Don Bourke about Vitamin D3 and how the sun is very good for birds i was thinking about having part of the aviary uncovered and exposed to the sun. Do you think it would safer for the birds to have a suspended section or to use the concrete slab as the base or would this make diseases easier to spread? Thanks, nitsuD
October 26, 200915 yr Check my aviary topic and you will see I am amidst doing exactly the same thing. Suspended so if there are wild bird droppings they should go through.

Yeah I have been watching that I was just wondering if that would be what happens? I have discussed it with some of Australia's top budgie breeders who have suspended open sections and they say its fine as long as its suspended. Cec Gearing and gary Armstrong have the same type of setup with suspended open areas such as this. ****ALSO.......it must be said that doves are able to fly at an aviary and shoot droppings inside the aviary aviary up to three feet in and wild doves carry a lot of diseases. January 27, 201015 yr I prefer a fully enclosed avairy with a window to allow the sun to shine in, that way no problem with wild birds, hawks or vermin. Just food for thought. Clearwing
