Posted October 23, 200915 yr Hi all, New to this forum, looks great! I just thought I'd ask some advice firstly about one of my baby budgies. The babies are about 6 weeks out of the nest and for some reason I have one evil one that fights with everyone, anyway I woke up this morning and fed them and noticed that one of my other birds was bleeding from the beak, I had a closer look and went to clean her up a bit with warm water and cotton bud, and found out that most of her bottom beak was hanging off and broke off in my hand. She seems to have a large peice on the side and I think a little bit on the other. She is in a seperate cage now and looks quite happy (well as happy as she can be) but I dont think she can eat. Does a broken beak grow back or is this a job for the vet to put to sleep. The problem is this is my 3 year old son's bird, he held her when she first came from the nest and he named her "Birdy" Look forward to your insight, Richie.
October 23, 200915 yr I am not expert on beaks, but i think it would be able to grow back. Can it eat at all? Are you hand feeding it now? Soft foods?
October 23, 200915 yr No, it wont grow back. Broken tips of beaks can grow back but not the damage your baby has. It will be in a lot of pain and does need assessment by a vet. It most likely will need handfeeding the rest of its life.
October 23, 200915 yr okay, take it to the vet. I the beak will not grow back, than birdy will not have a good life.
October 23, 200915 yr I agree with Kaz as it will never survive with help, I had a baby last year the then bit her whole top beak off she had to be put to sleep poor little thing.
