I would like to put Oliver (an adult male - no idea how old as he came to us as a found bird) in the same cage as Maxi(a young female about 3 months). Their two cages have been side by side for a couple of weeks now and they have pretty muh ignored eacch other.

 

How do I acomplish them becoming cage mates? Eventually, they will all be in one large indoor aviary but I'm still building it and it won't be finished anytime soon. Neither bird is particularly well hand trained at the moment.

 

Any pointers from the pros?

just put them in together

its the only way to see if they will be friendly

although its not often that a young and older bird dont get along good luck

I have written this up in the FAQ's on a good way on doing this if you would like to read it.

 

Personally, I would not just put them together but do this gradually because if you do that you don't know what you may wake up to in the morning.

 

When I intro both my birds I had them have out time together only for the first few days, if you don't do out of cage time you can put them in the same cage and then at night keep them apart. A lot of times 1 of the birds usually the older one may try and mate with the younger one and it doesn't matter if it is a 2 of the same sex this is what happened to mine they were 2 boys.

 

Read over the FAQ how to intro a 2nd bird I believe you will get good ideas.

Sometimes an older male in with a younger female in the same cage.........the older male thinks she is for mating. Watch out for that, as she can become stressed and sick in no time if her persues her in this way.

Hens are notorious at ack ack noises........its their way of saying back off and or give me more room.

Lucy's ack ack noises sound like a machine to me---sometimes it's "back off" and sometimes it's "feed me, dammit!"
