Posted October 18, 200915 yr This chick is 13 days old and just starting to get pinfeathers showing his/her colour. His parents were a Sky violet male and a Grey-green female. (splits of the female are unknown, the male is not split anything as far as I know). I have never had a green budgie before, especially as a baby, so are white ends at the flight pinfeathers and white pins near his tail normal? Or is he by some chance a Yellowface? I am about 98% sure he is a green, but I want to make sure, I don't know if those white pin feathers are normal for a green or if he is something else. Thanks in advance for any help! By the way, while I'm asking things about this baby, what is his/her sex, does anyone know? I'm guessing male, as his/her cere is white all over (not counting the black) instead of more variation in the colour that I'd expect a female to have.

October 18, 200915 yr Author Not Spangle by the way, as neither of his parents are Spangles. Does anybody else know, as well, if he is green or not?
October 18, 200915 yr That bird is a definite spangle, no doubt about it and a yellow face at that. The other bird looks like a yellow face normal to me, but time will tell. It could still be a green, but feather tips aren't intense a yellow enough i say. Give it 5 days and you'll know for sure. Spangle looks to be a cock, can't tell the other.
October 18, 200915 yr Seems to be some confusion here. I think the question was initially asking about the green normal bird. That one is going to be a green normal. The other bird looks like a spangle. You said the parents were not spangles? Are you colony breeding or breeding in breeding cages? Is it possible, even if they are in cages, that the father of the spangle is not the same father as the green?
October 18, 200915 yr Author Sorry, the one I am asking about is the green, not the second baby in the last picture. The chick I am asking about is a foster in the Spangle baby's nest.
October 18, 200915 yr okay, that will clear up a lot. I am not sure. I would think that he/she is going to feather up into a normal green budgie. Not sure how you would get anything else

October 18, 200915 yr Author Alright just wanted to make sure he was a green, seeing as I've never had one before. Wasn't sure if the white pins were normal or not. And the reason I wasn't sure he was a green is that there is a chance his mother is split YF instead of blue. A small chance. Oh, and GB, your input is needed..You greatly help me and most probably a lot of other people with your knowledge..you know a lot more than me that's for sure! Edited October 18, 200915 yr by Jen144
October 19, 200915 yr Yellowface is a dominant mutation and a bird Cannot be split for it. It can be masked by a green bird. What were the parents of the mother? If neither of her parents were yellowface then it's a definate green chick
October 19, 200915 yr Author I know, I meant as in like a green can be split for blue, a green can hide YF. I have no clue as to her parents, she has a ring but I don't know how to find out who bred her? If I can find out, and talk to, whoever bred her then I can know what she is split for, if anything.. Her ring is green and says: CDB 07 117 I think CDB is the initals of the breeder, 07 being the year she was born, and 117 the ring number, right?..If so, how can I find out what breeder leaves near where I got her with the initials CDB? I assume asking the petshop where I got her, as to who supplies them with English budgies, would be the best idea of course.. but is there any sort of list (specific to the club this breeder is probably a member of) of breeders and their names and contact details that any of you know of? Or where I can find one? Edited October 19, 200915 yr by Jen144
