Posted October 15, 200915 yr About 2 weeks ago I noticed my hen had a lump on her . In a panic I took her to the vet and he told me she had an egg. As I had no breeding box in the cage I was quite surprised, but then again her mate had been quite *****. Well its now 2 weeks later and she has not layed her eggs. She has gone into the nesting box quite a few times, yes I put itin their after the trip to the vet, and her mate has been sitting on the side of the nesting box talking to her. Should I be concerned that she has not layed? Or could it be within the next 2 days. On Wednesday I think I disturbed her as she was in her box breathing quite hard and lying down, She seems quite happy and has been constantly eating and moving around her cage. She is a t present in her box, pocking her head out every now and again. Edited October 15, 200915 yr by KAZ changed breading to breeding
October 15, 200915 yr Hi Rybinna I am quite surprised at your vet. He seems to have given you bad information. Was he a proper avian vet at all ? If the lump was truly an egg, it would have been located down at the tail end of the bird and the egg would have arrived within a day or so of seeing the lump in the right place. Obviously it wasnt an egg or it would have arrived within two days of seeing it. By adding the nestbox all it has done is trigger her into breeding mode and breeding has begun because of the nestbox and within a timeframe of adding a nestbox for her to begin thinking about making babies. All of this due to bad information from the vet. If it was an egg another would have followed within two days of the first egg and every two days after as well. the lump.................is it still there and if so where is it located ? and where was the lump when the vet declared it to be an egg ? A lump in another place can be a feather cysts or a tumour. It can be a feather cyst or tumour of the preening gland if located at the back end of the bird. Anything on the front of the bird wouldnt be an egg at all. Edited October 15, 200915 yr by KAZ
October 15, 200915 yr Author I took her back to the vet and she is actually egg bound. They have kept her is and they are going to give her hand on passing the egg. The vet also said their was a hard egg behind it. I saw a different vet. If she does not pass it by them giving her the calcium and warming her up they will then do an ex-ray etc etc.
