Posted April 22, 200520 yr i have a yello budgie witch is a resseive pied i think, its cere is pink but has tints of blue. Now this sounds like a male but it is being feed by a male, so i thought it must be female but i realized that sometimes she/he feeds the male. Im so confused. They are grooming each other aswell but she mainly grooms him and she seems to be the one getting excited can you slove my problem :bluebudgie:
April 22, 200520 yr Till the birds are 6 months PLUS you will never be sure (and even then you might not be!). Ceres can cycle through most colors of the rainbow till the birds are sexually mature and then they tend to be (GENERALLY - there are exceptions to every rule!): Male - cycles pink through bright blue roughly every 5 weeks Female - cycles pink through brown (almost crusty brown sometimes) every 6 weeks. I'm afraid no matter how important it may be to you - you will need to wait till they grow up and then you need to watch them over a period of time. Regarding preening each other - this is NO indication of anything sexual directly.
April 22, 200520 yr Well there is another possibility..... You may have two males but the one whose cere is pink with occassional blue may be "gay". I don't mean this in any derogatory way but there is research that shows in the absence of hens - some males in a flock with "turn" to provide companionship for the other males. Whatever - if you have had them three years and you have no eggs or chicks - sounds like hey are good pals - but that's it!
April 22, 200520 yr that might be a possibility because when i had all my budgies together the other female sort of submitted to her but she ignored her, wat should i do coz the other female i got dont get along with him and is the wrong colour to breed

April 22, 200520 yr Hi there, we had two male birds who were grooming each other etc for ages despite there being females around. For ages we weren't sure whether maybe one was a hen. We were really gutted about the fact that they seemed "gay". We seperated them off and put them each in with a female, and after being patient for a long time one of them ended up breeding with the female and they are now one of our best pairs! The other cock eventually found himself a hen too and they too have had several clutches (and he is an excellent father!) So it may well be the case you have got two males together there if you aren't getting any eggs. I would suggest trying to pair them up with other birds if possible. Hope this helps.
April 22, 200520 yr sorry every body im new so i have to become more paitent, im just in a bit of a hurry today not sure why but im sorry, if your still hear i need some advice
April 23, 200520 yr sorry every body im new so i have to become more paitent, im just in a bit of a hurry today not sure why but im sorry, if your still hear i need some advice <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think you have got a defeinte cock bird and here is a photo of a recessive cock bird for you to compair. I hope this helps you. My friends had 2 cock birds together untill I told them that they had 2 males so I got them a female and they gave me 1 of the males. Just get a female for him and he will be fine. good luck and keep us posted.
April 23, 200520 yr that is practically my budgie he's even got the same markings, thanks for the information, i need to get a hen now. I just need to find a breeder or pet store with hens over a year now
April 23, 200520 yr i dont mind what colour i get i have just been told that some colours get along better with each other
April 27, 200520 yr that might be a possibility because when i had all my budgies together the other female sort of submitted to her but she ignored her, wat should i do coz the other female i got dont get along with him and is the wrong colour to breed <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What do you mean by the wrong color to breed???
April 27, 200520 yr ive been told that befor that some budgies will only breed if they like the colour of the other bird
April 27, 200520 yr So are you saying your bird was the wrong colour because when you tried to breed them they didn't do anything? How long did you give them. Think about it like this....if you throw 2 humans in a room together they're not going to instantly be friends, they need to get to know each other first. Same with budgies...it can take a few weeks or more for the first eggie to appear. Then again some budgies just don't get on. You would be able to tell.
